Mark Neutral Newbie September 1, 2004 Share September 1, 2004 Hi, I have been driving my new car for almost a month. Notice that the road noise (coming from the floor board) is getting unbearable. Dunno if i am too sensitive or the car is like this. When compared with other Jap cars, it was rumored that Toyota Corollas should be one of the more quiet ones. Maybe this one assembled in THAILAND is of lower quality or something. Anyone did any sound proofing to your ride and found a great improvement. I am dying to know the difference before I commit my ride, and $$$. Also, after turning off the ignition and leaving the car, there is always a ticking sound from the bottom of the car. I suspect its the expansion and contraction of the exhaust pipe. Wah!!! Why other cars do not have such "special" sound. Its super irritating. Sounds like the car is gonna explore or something. Hope to hear from anyone........ Thanks. ↡ Advertisement
Mondeost220 Neutral Newbie September 1, 2004 Share September 1, 2004 hey the ticking sound is due to the cooling of the hot metals after u turn off the ignition..dnt worry its ok...had that sound on civic as well..bt its due to very cold weather..in singapore weather...seldom hear such ticking sound unless its at nite or after a chilling rain
Silver_blade Turbocharged September 2, 2004 Share September 2, 2004 I was in my friend's altis and I don't find the raod noise any worse that other Jap cars. Were you previously driving a Lexus or luxury conti?

Soya Supersonic September 2, 2004 Share September 2, 2004 i tink due to cost cutting, all recent corollas are noisy and sound a bit milo-kong, so it's normal. drove my fren's stock G9 b4 and it was dem noisy. the G7 was probably quieter and the best rolla made. Toyotavios Neutral Newbie September 2, 2004 Share September 2, 2004 The road noise would depend on two criteria : 1. The type of tyres on the car. 2. The characteristics of the road surface. If the air-condition was switched on when you were driving, the ticking sound is due to the condensation of water vapour. This outlet is short, thus the condensed water drips onto the bottom panels (resulting in the sound) before being channeled to the floor.

Luckcent 4th Gear September 3, 2004 Share September 3, 2004 Have your friend ride with you to check out the noise. Determine where it comes from then bring it up to your agent to rectify.

Gusgus Neutral Newbie September 3, 2004 Share September 3, 2004 Hi Mark, like you i got an Altis. Received it in July. I tend to agree with you on that. The noises from the road i mean. i have done some research and narrow it down to the not too quite Bridgestones that are armed with. Other then this, i find my Altis pretty quiet. You may be hearing the clicking as your car is still quite new, Breaking in prehaps, but if it presist after 1500~2000km send it in for a look. Hope this helps. O btw, what's you fuel consumption like per litre?
Soya Supersonic September 4, 2004 Share September 4, 2004 by the way, how do you catogorize which is G9 and G7? So The Altis is G what? Thanks. G9 means the 9th generation of rolla which was the japan model b4 the altis. G7 rolla is the 92-96 gen model. G8 was the pan ling ling rolla. altis i tink would be a G9.5 but i dunno if rolla fans see it as that.
Hattee Neutral Newbie September 4, 2004 Share September 4, 2004 Seems that 1.6 Altis among the noisest cars when carrying 5 adults beyond 120kph. Already the lighter 1.6 Corolla is not spared with this noisy phenomena which Toyota has been hidding behind its VVTi advertisement for so long. Maybe have to be contented at below 100kph when bringing 5 adults.
Midicity Neutral Newbie September 4, 2004 Share September 4, 2004 I think the japan G9 should be noiser. I've compared both the Jap G9 and the altis and noticed that the altis has firewall + bonnet insulation. The G9 doesn't have this. As quite a bit of noise comes from the engine bay, I assume that the altis is a slightly quieter ride compared to the Jap G9
Hattee Neutral Newbie September 4, 2004 Share September 4, 2004 Notice 1.6 Altis is unusually noisy from a family of 5 (incl maid) when they climb up the HDB multi-story. Thot was a pickup. Even if G9 is noisy, like average mid-size saloon. Still better off with 5 adults going to Malaysia at 120kph than Altis. No use test drive. Only short 50kph-70kph at most. Maybe reason so many people fall for Vios and Altis until they found out what they never know in Malaysia.
