it's for distress call esp in remote country area when ur car becomes faulty and u're stuck.

it is fitted as a standard for JDM and the slot is there, but removed for export models. but if u get PI, it may be there.

no big deal really, u can get signal flares fr marine suppliers though.

is this another screw-up by LTA? This JDM flare thing has been around for so long.....now than they bring up. I am sure they have a checklist of things to approve before they allow the car on the road (eg. those super tinted rear glass on the MPVs...those need to be changed before the car can register)........so why did they not check on the flare?

left side underneath your dashboard, one red colour tube.

======================

Saw it last time on my frens jazz. Was quite surprised they suddenly allowed them in.

Anyway you can also find them on boats as part of their emergency equip.

It's very common in other countries where they are used like our triangle breakdown signs.

Maybe in a short time, LTA will decide to approve them if no accidents happen due to their use???

by the time fire burn up everything, dun think the surveyor is gg to b so smart to pick up a burnt flare and blame it on u.

dun worry, petrol fire is considered ultrafast, everything will be 1/2 gone before the fire brigade arrive.

well, you know how insurance companies work... will try to find every possible means to not compensate you in event of a claim. I'm sure they'll locate the flare and give you 101 reasons why you should not be carrying it. laugh.gif

A signal flare is indeed a classified item under the Firearms Provision Act.

Out at sea, it is a must for all vessels to be equiped with signal flares (with the exception of pleasure crafts) by the IMO. Signal flares are also an important distress signal that enable other vessels to see you from 3 miles away.

The conditions are subjective, and a flare must be stored in a cool dry place. The reason for being so, that when a flare get heats up, it may be activated by itself. In my job, I have to check my flares every time I bring my vessel out. And a car is the least possible place to store a flare because of our climate and the configurations of our cars. The heat trapped in our car when we parked them out ... and as time goes ... the activation code may be activated simply due to heat and not manual activation.

I had an experience ... that my crew was digging out the flares so we can clean up the air-con cabinets ... and one of the flare blew up ... coz it was out on the deck in the sun. I believe it will be more of a safety precaution than restricting you in distress situations.
