Lightspeed Clutched October 30, 2002 Share October 30, 2002 My air con takes a little while to give out cold air, and I have to drive the car for some distance b4 it comes out.... but after that, even when stationary, its cool air. But this wasnt the case b4 I had the cooling coil changed. My air con will come out with hot air for about 5-10 seconds while the car was still stationary b4 giving out cool air. so guys...any ideas? its kinda like just now, I drove out from my car park (Holland V) to Tanglin Halt....then the cool air came out... and I was wondering before that if I ran out of gas ... Vtim 3rd Gear November 2, 2002 Share November 2, 2002 My air con will come out with hot air for about 5-10 seconds while the car was still stationary b4 giving out cool air. When the air-con is first turn-on, the air-con gas will take a short time to be compressed (5 to 10 sec I think is normal) before it reaches the dryer & cooling coil. During this time, the cooling coil is not cold yet, so you'll feel the air coming from the air-con vent to be hot air (hottest if you park your car under the sun) because the Fan starts to turn as soon as you switch on the Air-Con There used to be a device, some years back (I had it on my ex-Alfa 33) that will delay the switching on of the air-con fan for about 5 secs (for the coil to turn cold) but I think it's not available anymore . So, when you park your car under the hot sun , leave your air-con vent to external and not internal circulation. When you go get into your car, start the engine & switch on the air-con, after a few seconds then switch to internal circulation, you'll feel the air-con will cool down the car faster If not good enough, drive for about a minute with all the windows down, so that the hot air (that's built-up in your car) can escape & your air-con will cool down your car much faster as the internal air is not as hot as before. The filter is really redundant...there are too many vents around the blower liao, no point putting filter.... BTW if want remove smell put treated(?) charcoal...but this only a temporary solution...should really find out the source and remove it completely instead of trying this valiant (and expensive) effort. I pulled out my whole carpet and found cockroaches underneath, got wool soundproof material underneath...which absorbs water and causethe smell....
