Strange thing happened this morning... while reversing to park my car in office carpark, the car just died after a few metres... mine's a auto tranny car... had to off everything and pause for awhile before able to restart.. blush.gifblush.gifbigcry.gifbigcry.gif

anyone have any idea what's wrong? I thought I smelt something burnt in the car intermittently, but not too sure... sigh

Shag, could it be due to the leak we saw on Saturday?? Never happened before till this morning...

hope nothing serious... otherwise auto tranny problem means $$$$ bigcry.gifbigcry.gif

hmmm... I just switched back to Shell 98 last night from Caltex Platinum... maybe that's why?? Thought the car was kinda sluggish even with the grounding after putting a tank of Caltex...

hope that's the case... otherwise... bigcry.gif

The red one, the silver one is fuel injector treatment.

If U still got FS-21, then add a dose of it and see whether your car gets better (machiam like doctor prescibing meds eh? [:p] )

Yes Doc! smile.gif

But I did add that last night when pumping in Shell... maybe engine blur with Shell 98 and left over Caltex Platinum and FS21 all in one tank?? dizzy.gifdizzy.gif

gonna try again later and see whether it die again...

just tried again and it happened again shakehead.gif

strange thing is "normal" driving and reversing is fine, but when I start to control my brake too much in a 3-point turn, after awhile the car will jerk a bit... if I stop immediately, the car won't die, but if I let it continue, the engine will be killed.. i.e., like missing the biting point in a manual tranny, except mine's a auto...

doesn't seem like a fuel/emission problem since i can move normally.. but why would controlling the brake too much kill the engine during reverse?? shakehead.gifshakehead.gifblush.gif

anyone else experienced it before? is it auto tranny problem?

Hi Mojoe,

From what you described, I think there're 2 possibilities:

1) when you stepped on the brakes, the brake booster will actually "consume" some vacuum from the inlet manifold, causing the rpm to drop. If your idling rpm setting is not high enough, it can cause the engine to stall.

2) Likewise, turning the steering wheel will make the power steering pump come to life, which is also a load to the engine and causing the rpm to dip once again.

i suggest that you send your car to your mech for a checkup and ask him to pay more attention to the brake booster/servo and the power steering pump...IMHO [:)]

HTH.

hmm.. but it's the 1st time this has happened after driving it a few months... idling rpm been around 700+ so should be fine... but I did experience an rpm dip just when the engine was about to die and my steering was turned and controlling the brake...

OIC....but if the brake booster aka brake servo has a leak, excessive vacuum will be drawn from the inlet manifold, causing the rpm to drop more than normal.

Also, just fyi with the steering at full-lock will introduce the biggest load to the engine and also will shorten the life of the steering pump. As a good practice, try to avoid holding the steering at full lock. Once it hit full lock, release a bit.

You may want to try this first and see what happens [:)] In any case, I still think there's a problem with your car. [:(] Hope that it's not too serious though.
