No lar Bro...don't say that lah [;)]

I used to drive old cars too....think because older cars got alot of "loose" parts in the engine compartment so rpm tune higher a bit will reduce the vibrations. But my previous car quite ok though, I drive until scrap still can maintain 800rpm all the way [:)]

For engine with 3 cylinders, usually the mech will also tune the rpm higher to reduce vibrations.

Do try checking you vacuum hoses like Vtecc mentioned, also check the idle control valve. My brick did this stunt where low speed braking or standing idle too long causes the engine to die, due to faulty idle control valve.... [shakehead]

Hi there:

I believe that will be your auto tranny's problem.

When you're in 'R' with brake applied, the torque converter clutch will release and that will disengage the power flow from the crankshaft (flywheel) to the tranny input shaft. This action did not take place and that caused your engine to stall. If that stalling is intermittant, you may need a good auto mechanic to check it out.

Hope that helps.

Hi Silverado/Viper,

The clutch in the torque converter will only lock up when the tranny is in the highest gear...i.e. when the car is cruising at a speed of 70-80kph from my own experience. So the clutch will never lock when the reverse gear is engaged.

Cheers! [:)]

Thanks guys!

The car couldn't move far last night, thus I had to get it towed to Regent... Went there this morning and they just called... need to change something in the engine (can't remember what it was as couldn't hear properly)... the cost of that part is about $1k plus... shakehead.gifshakehead.gifbigcry.gifbigcry.gif

why would they do that ah? i.e. to detune to 700? Actually mine should be closer to 850 than 700 lah so don't think i need to ...

as per my reply to Silverado... just discovered that not only did the idiot who serviced the car last time overdose the trans fluid, they put a manual one instead of ATF... sheesh... really pissed...
