Mojoe Neutral Newbie November 7, 2002 Author Share November 7, 2002 fingers crossed... sigh... but hopefully not serious as they say the main problem causing the stalling is a part from the engine... just asked them to check auto trans coz it was leaking a bit, and only then discovered the MTF thing.. now flushing it at Regent.. been driving that car around for about 3 months... in MTF... had been okay till the engine stalling thing yesterday, so hopefully the damage is not done yet... sigh... simply disgusted with this whole affair... Unknown_G7 Neutral Newbie November 7, 2002 Share November 7, 2002 For more than 3 months, you auto car are actually using MTF!! Wonder can push the blame to your car dealer as it's already 3 months
Cool Neutral Newbie November 7, 2002 Share November 7, 2002 Once I heard from Chris Chee of AutoFix, he did mentioned that putting wrong ATF fluid will stall the car.. all it needs is to flush it and refill it with the right one. Unless the damaged is so bad, it could seize the transmission into a deadlock.
Mojoe Neutral Newbie November 7, 2002 Author Share November 7, 2002 the stalling only happened yesterday, so hopefully not damaged yet... why are there such idiots around? think I'm gonna avoid 2nd-hand dealers from now onwards...
Yongwd 1st Gear November 7, 2002 Share November 7, 2002 have u identify the components required for replacement? perhaps u check with Regent motors and drop me a private mail? thanks.
Mojoe Neutral Newbie November 7, 2002 Author Share November 7, 2002 push the blame to a 2nd-hand car dealer?? eerrmm... wasting breath i think... sigh... lesson learnt... hopefully not an expensive one yet...
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie November 7, 2002 Share November 7, 2002 WTF!!!! The mech who did the cockup is a bloody fool! Must curse him to hell man, disgrace to mechs and car lovers like us MTF is essentially petroleum oil like engine oil, it's slightly more viscos than engine wherease ATF is hydraulic oil and is very light weight and slick compared to MTF. What probably happened to your autobox is the oil channels in the tranny are clogged by the thicker MTF and may have burnt the tranny clutch. If Regent quoted U $1k then still repairable, a rebuild tranny will cost excess of $2k. New ones are usually $4-5k
BoneStock 5th Gear November 7, 2002 Share November 7, 2002 Yah man...that mech is really a freaking IDIOT! Even an apprentice mech should be able to know the difference between MTF and ATF and also differentiate between a manual tranny with an auto
Offroader Neutral Newbie November 7, 2002 Share November 7, 2002 My sympaties......hope that the tranny is ok....I think that is the more crucial issue now that the other $1k is comfirmed down the drain......
Txthree Neutral Newbie November 7, 2002 Share November 7, 2002 Hey Mojoe, My utmost sympathy... as someone having the same car, this is indeed shocking & revolting, especially when we got it around the same time albeit not from the same agent. If i were you, would have look up the agent (calmly though , not with parang ) & check out the truth. Compensation aside, would need to seek out exactly who's fault & avoid those work shops. Doubt its the agents fault as i believe nobody would check out the transmission fluid, not even mechanic, unless something is amiss as in this case. Had 3 experiences with agents & always have those kind of car evaluation b4 buying. However, i doubt these checks involve checking trans fluid. Mojoe Neutral Newbie November 7, 2002 Author Share November 7, 2002 the $1k is for the distributor of the engine, nothing to do with the tranny... actually I have had no problems with my tranny.. the engine stall is due to the distributor... but they suspect that my auto tranny may slip at high speed (which I have not experienced) and the slight leak is at the pressure plug... but did not take it apart as the labour cost itself is high... ask me to monitor first... Mojoe Neutral Newbie November 7, 2002 Author Share November 7, 2002 they suspect possible slippage at high speed but I have yet to encounter it even before the stalling... ask me to monitor first... sigh...
Silverado Neutral Newbie November 7, 2002 Share November 7, 2002 Hi Vtecc: Yeah, that's what I said; "when brake applied and in 'R', the TCC will release". By the way, who is Vtecc in Autospeed. Nice to meet up with you here. I think I can learn some automatic transmission here from you, buddy. Cheers!
BoneStock 5th Gear November 8, 2002 Share November 8, 2002 Hi Viper, Heh heh, I'm still more used to calling you by this name. Good to see you in MCF! Sorry for the belated welcome. BTW, Vtecc is Cam in AS...a retired, self-proclaimed, part-time, DIY mechanic. You are a humble man, buddy...we're all here to learn/share with each other. Technology is moving so fast, most of the things I learnt some 10 to 20 years ago are already obsolete by now....so I guess that's the reason why we're all here. "when brake applied and in 'R', the TCC will release" From what I understand from your post, think you're assuming that the torque convertor clutch is in the "engaged" state, and will be released when "brake applied and in 'R'' . But from my understanding, the clutch is permanently in the "released" state until you hit top gear. So the clutch should already be "released" before "brake applied and in 'R'".
