Genie47 1st Gear January 17, 2005 Share January 17, 2005 Actually, timing belts are measured by the number of hours they are in operation. Remember, the moment the ignition is turned on, the timing belt starts going. So theoretically, when the car is idling, it is still in operation. Using mileage isn't the best way to measure how much life the timing belt has left. To be safe, choose a lower mileage taking into account all the idling the car has encountered. 100k should be quite alright.
Genie47 1st Gear January 17, 2005 Share January 17, 2005 Best thing about Toyota is that if you go to a spare part shop in JB, tell the shop keeper you are doing 100k servicing. He goes in and comes out with "combo meal" packet. Timing belt, water pump ........ etc. All inside for 100k servicing.
Clio Neutral Newbie January 22, 2005 Share January 22, 2005 no leh... u need to replace all the oil seal, timing belt, gasket + tensioner spring & idling bearings. all come in the timing belt package. somemore changing of timing belt not a easy labour. need to dislocate all the wiring, extractor and manifold. than loosen mounting take out engine. after that still have to take out alternator, engine cover and timing belt cover. the whole process labour and parts will cost you more than $600? different car different price, different workshop different labour charge. Vtim 3rd Gear January 23, 2005 Share January 23, 2005 (edited) that's true, mileage is not that accurate. Both my ex-Alfa 33 is 40k km for belt change & every 80k for tensioner/bearing & water pump Edited January 23, 2005 by Vtim ↡ Advertisement
