Recently, i changed my HU to a Sony HU that can play mp3.

The unit would sometimes paused or skip when I apply my brakes while playing mp3.

playing CD and radio is ok.

The Mp3 CD plays fine on a PC.

Anyone encounter such problem playing mp3 or is it because of a poor installation, no grounding etc?

Thks.

I got that problem when I was using the sony F7700. Later I gave that HU to my friend and yesterday he told me he also encounter the same problem. Not sure why. Maybe installation not done correctly?

this is kinda weird coz i am using the FX7700. so far no probs with CDs and MP3 even under hard braking.

the newer sonys are equipped with a better isolation drive to reduce the prob of skipping. did that happen to one MP3 CD or all MP3 CDs?

hmm, haven't test with another mp3 CD. Will go do that.

But seems like it will happen too.

Is there a possibility because when u brake, the surge or drop in electric flow causes the HU power supply to be unstable and thus skip?

Did you have grounding or voltage stabilzer installed?

My friend and I was thinking in that like too.

Current I had installed grounding and volt stab after I gave my friend the HU and my current HU seems to be working happily without any problem. My friend had not installed grounding and and volt stab yet and he is encounter the problem. he also noted that when he touched the Sony HU when it is skipping, he found it to be quite warm.

i do have a pivot voltage stab. however, even before i had the pivot installed, there was no skipping.

braking does not cause any current probs.

do u have an external amplifier driving the speakers?

Mmm... might be the mounting angle and the CDR/RW. I've noticed that my VDO tends to skip more (when it does) when I'm using a CDRW which had a quick erase done as oppose to a full erase. It skips the least when I use a regular CDR. As an added note, I had more skipping problems when the HU was not mounted properly and could move a little when I go over bumps of brake really hard.

Nope, no amps yet. only the pre-amp that the HU have. Guess I will go back to the shop and check with them.

hmm, not sure if it is mounting angle coz it never happened with a regular CD.

Might be the CDR but it's a Sony one. Will go try out with another brand of CDs.

Will do a few test and worse, go back to shop...

hehe....yes yes .....i had this amazing experience....before i go on better to tell abit about my basic config: the 7700 feeding a 4 channel amp to drive 1 pair of component spks and a subwoofer (2 ch bridged). the rear co-axial spks are driven by HU.

after installation, i found that under braking (random, sometimes light sometimes heavy with no distinctive pattern), the sound to the front would be cut off intermittently (about 1 sec).

this really drove me mad coz i could not pinpoint the prb. i went back to the shop the next day and they gave me a new amp, thinking that the amp could be faulty. however, still the same prb.

went back to the shop again. this time, we changed the amp to another model (different brand). miraculously, prb solved! no one could explain why. the only possible reason is incompatibility. the install guy told me that he did encounter such a prb once ever. mine was the 2nd case.
