Jkphuazanne Neutral Newbie January 24, 2005 Share January 24, 2005 Hi guys, anyone knows how to know if your rims is heavy or light-weighted? I have heard light-weighted (but equally durable) rims can save petrol up to 50km more... ↡ Advertisement
Tan280 Neutral Newbie January 24, 2005 Share January 24, 2005 Is true that light-weighted rims are better but for FC I am not sure as is individual driving... is a person rav hard his rev meter goes as high as 4000rpm and above, then FC is high and vice versa... but of course having light-weighted rims can improve the weight of the car when cornering or driving at high-speeds... Guys, if I say wrongly, please advise.. thanks...
Zombie Neutral Newbie January 26, 2005 Share January 26, 2005 Rims I dunno, in theory, lightwt should save petrol.... but I know light-footed definitely can...
Jamesgetz 4th Gear January 26, 2005 Share January 26, 2005 it's true, at least for my ride. was using 16" rims, 7+ kg but recently switched back to 15", 5kg rims. my FC improved by close to 10%.

Robertoon Neutral Newbie January 28, 2005 Share January 28, 2005 mine no differnt leh..from 15 to 17inches.
Jamesgetz 4th Gear January 28, 2005 Share January 28, 2005 wat was the wt of your 17" and 15" in rims? another reason i suspect could be bcos of the rolling radius. chances r the rolling radius cannot be exactly the same as stock profile when u change your rim size. for mine: at 16", the radius was bigger than correct profile by abt 1 to 2%. at 15", the radius is smaller by 1 to 2%. so the effect of changing from 16" to 15" actually resulted in a drop in rolling radius of 3 to 4%. theorectically, a smaller rolling radius means less torque (and less power) required to push the car forward or better acceleration for the same power available at the wheels
Robertoon Neutral Newbie January 29, 2005 Share January 29, 2005 1 never check my 15icnes but 17inches is 17kg inclusive of tyre. Maybe the 2400cc engine have enough torque.
Jhoo Neutral Newbie January 29, 2005 Share January 29, 2005 My guess is the weight of rims & tyres. You should consider the total weight, not just the rims alone. Tyres of diff make and sizes can be different by more than 1 kg.
Robertoon Neutral Newbie January 29, 2005 Share January 29, 2005 so you prefer tyre to eb heavier or light. Seems erveyone here prefer light wheels. Never anyone mention light tyre.
Jhoo Neutral Newbie January 30, 2005 Share January 30, 2005 Maybe you can help shed some light 1) There are not much difference in weight for tyres with 55/60/65? 2) Lighter tyres tends to have softer side walls? 3) Harder side walls equates to better road handlihg but higher road noice? 4) Silica compound is harder and tends to have higher road noice? I guess what everyone is hoping for is best of both world. Performance and comfort together! Ideal tyre would be: 1) Lightest material, low rolling resistance for better FC 2) Thread pattern that perfects Dry and Wet handling 3) Hard side walls for good cornering 4) Comfort with absobtion of road irregularity, low noice 5) Low price Got solution? ↡ Advertisement
