Wolfy3769 2nd Gear November 28, 2005 Share November 28, 2005 did you use the recommended one (like DiaQueen for Mit) or you just get off-the-shelf brand? Had you try a few brands? if yes, can you provide feedback?? for my old ride, I had use Shell (fully synthenic - >$10/liter) and Esso (I think is semi - only $5/liter) frankly, i cant tell the diff. ↡ Advertisement

Mzrmazda3 6th Gear November 29, 2005 Share November 29, 2005 Saw from my invoice is that they replaced about 7 or 8 ltrs of the atf I asked that SA and he told me that they used a machine to suck out all the old atf before replacing it with the new one You are right about them using the original MZ atf which is Mercon 5 rated for my case It cost about 70 or 80 bucks

Mzrmazda3 6th Gear November 29, 2005 Share November 29, 2005 I believe flushing should be included inside the 40K servicing but jus in case i give you the wrong information, you may like to give MM a call MM charge me about 70 plus to 80 plus for the replacement of atf as it is not included inside the 20K servicing

Pisces69 6th Gear November 29, 2005 Share November 29, 2005 Try to follow the schedule in manual. But also always note the "Months" especially for Singapore. If you are using Synthetic Engine Oil, you can get away with 6 to 12 months oil change interval if your mileage is lower than the average 20000km per year. Otherwise, on mineral or semi blends I will change out every 3 to 6 months. Other items such as rubber parts, will fail any time from the 2nd to 5th year regardless of mileage. These have been from my experience. ===================================== OK thanks for the info. For me, I use synthetic atf which can tolerate high heat better than mineral atf. Heat is the thing which causes the breakdown of your atf, which gets very hot under some circumstances. With synthetic, I just follow the Owners Manual OCI, less 10K km as insurance for the autobax. For engine oil, I also use synthetic, which I change every 10K km which is about 7-8 months on average. The car feels almost as smooth on the last day as when I filled the oil fresh. Do not try to use other types as they will definately damage your autobox. Brands is not the issue, type is most important & try to use synthetic for most protection. Brands is up to the individual to decide which is best.
Pisces69 6th Gear November 29, 2005 Share November 29, 2005 Bro, me not rich lah ========================== Hahaha. I just kidding u bro. But what I mean is u seems like wasting alot of good money with overkill. Of course changing the oil more often is always good, but changing too often, even b4 the oil has detiorated at least 50% seems like a waste of $$$. Spend the $$$ on other things like a dinner for the family or cinema tickets for you & your GF. Would u paint your walls every year even b4 the old paint has started to fade or peel & when it sud last at least 7 years?

Pisces69 6th Gear November 30, 2005 Share November 30, 2005 Dont sweat. I just dont like to see $$$ being wasted. U decide what is best for your car as u also have a point as servicing more often is better to prevent wear & tear. For me, I just follow the recommendations by the manufacturers as they r the ones who know best what is required for the car.
Wesel Neutral Newbie January 7, 2006 Share January 7, 2006 4 liters seems very little for a flush. My flushing always takes about 15 to 20 lit depending on how dirty it was to start with. The flushing machine got 2 transparent tubes to see the colour of the ATF. One going in & the other coming out. When the colour of the ATF in BOTH tubes r the same, the job is complete. I prefer to use more ATF then save this $$$ and get a job not well done. What's the point of flushing if you don't get it fully clean. Normal drain & fill method, u use only about 3 lit of ATF, but still got about 3 lit of dirty ATF still inside your autobox. So u only get half protection. Just like want to save $$$, use expired condom. Risky for both of you, right? Hi, appreciate your comments. First thanks for recommending KATC, so far I check they charge the cheapest for flushing. I bring my own fluids, they charge $60 for labour and regardless how many litres I bring, they still charge $60 for labours for fluids change. I wanted to change the ATF filter, but Raymond said the filter cannot be change and can only change when overhaul. Mine is the pan type. Not sure why. I will take it the filter is the long-life type till the life span expire and kills the transmission. My is 40K and have never change the fluid before, so I brought 19 litres of OEM SPIII for flushing. The tube is insert to the ATF filler nozzel and machine start sucking the old oils and crank engine while the machine is pumping the new fluids. The whole process go again and again for the 19 litres. Seems to me it is just like changing the aquariums water, more of diluting the old fuilds. Is this correct ? My initial thought is there should be to two tubes connected to the car. One at the inlet for fresh oil and one at the oultet for waste oils. The first few litres of waste fluids came out is just like engine oils black colour, gradually it change from filthy red to more of bright red. But will never change to the same as the red fresh fluids on the clear tube on the machine. Is this consider the machine have change out most of the old fluids ? The car was later jacking up and check for visual leakages if any. The mechanic said the amount of oils I brought is enough to change it clean. I aasume so as well. While driving back, the shifting feel much better, it is just like driving the car for a first few months owning it. The mechanics recommends every 20K flush, 10L is enough and the ATF oils is not so dirty. What is you view ? I must said the staffs is friendly and not pushy. I am pleased with the staff who attended to my car, he washes his hand throughly before he drove my ride to service-bay . Hope you can answer my doubts, thanks in advance.
