Brake sound, help?

hi guys, am experiencing this problem, anyone had it before or know what is the cause? when braking to a stop (sometimes only) got a 'groaning' sound like something grinding against something from around 20kmh to stationary. but other than this sound, braking is still very effective. i brought this up to my mechanic about 7k km ago, he changed the front brake pad (disc), but the sound is back again. my rear is drums, i suspected the groan maybe is the brake shoe inside the drum worn out? so i tried stopping from slow speed using hand brake only (to use only rear brake) but no sound, its only when using the foot brake then got this disturbing groan. there is no 'spongy-ness' in the brake pedal feel, the front pads just changed, the rear drums fine, brake pump no leak, so what can it be?

by the way im driving a suzuki carry 1.3 petrol van

When u changed the front brake pads, did u check the thin metal plate placed between the pads & the calipers?

I like to apply a thin film of grease on both sides of it when changing the pads. It helps prevent rust & also those groaning sounds.

The greasing sud prevent the squeaking of the brakes.

If u feel a grinding sound, cud b the brakes r wearing out, as most have this "wear indicator" to warn u it's time to change the pads.

=======================

I recently changed all four brakes for $95. Inclusive of a brake fluid flushing.

The pads cost abt. $53 F & R excl installation.

if i understand u correctly, my car is also experiencing the same thing. rubbing/abrasion sounds from the front brakes (disc for my ride) when applying or releasing the brakes when the car is almost stationary. realised that this noise is esp loud after a rain or washing my car, prob bcos of the rust on the rotor. go check your brake rotors after rain and u can actually see a brown layer cover the surface. yes, tat's rust... apparently, this rubbing/abrasion sound 'prob' is quite common

Your brake pads cud b trying to tell u the're worn out & need to change.

Most pads have this built in wear indicator to warn you.

Supersonic

u mentioned that yr front pads are new. then the sound could be from:

i) the pads became glazed as the discs were not skimmed or

ii) the mech din apply the anti shim coating on it

as for the rear, it could be worn drums pads or simply too much dust accumulated inside the drums.

spongy brake feel is not a good indication if the pads are worn.

Fully agree. Cud b sign of water or air in the brake fluid. Best get it checked & flushed. Cud mean a nasty when u need to stop in an emergency.
