my engine oil is leaking... well i was very shock when i was washing car then i notice it. i am driving a 8 year oil car. but for the past 2 year nothing happen. i was using 10-50 full sys.

but recently i change to using RP 5-40 since people say that if i got no engine leak can use...

so it was fine for abt 8k mileage... left abt 2 k more and now after i change my water pump it start to leak... how come? or is it just wear and tear or is it the oil is TOO thin for me? what should i do?

dont really want to repair as i think is will be expensive.

leak as in from which part of engine? gasket? or the water pump side?

y not go back to ur mechanics?

ur change of engine oil does not seems to suggest huge diff in viscosity. in fact, it is use of sync replacing another sync, which tech speaking is not the problem.

"it start to leak..."

Hi! there, GoodSpeed,

Seems like the water pump is not install properly, did you check if engine oil is contaminated with water?

It's not possible for oil leak to be associated with use of different brands.

There is no such thing as 5W40 for RP. I assume you used 5W30. In that case, you have jumped too far for a car of your age, you should go for a 10W30 first and see how things go.

Nope! Most likely there already while you were using the thicker oil before. Solve this first. Using thick oil just postpones the problem as you see right now. Hehehe.....now you know something is wrong with your car. sweatdrop.gif

I would ask that you follow Paul's advice, get the whole thing checked. The pump, everything to eliminate the source of the leak. See if there is oil in your coolant reservoir or best see if there is coolant in the oil (more difficult).

You ar! Cannot do maths properly issit? Solve leak = 100plus, problem disappeared from your mind while you sleep.

Use thick oil, problem still in your mind while you sleep then become cannot sleep, then spend money on sleeping pills then can sleep. Then sleep so good forget wife/girlfriend have certain "needs", then wife/girlfriend not satisfied, then got relationship problems, then spend money on diamond ring or roses to patch up but only temporary, then with thick oil, the car engine stick out tongue become super sick and mixed in coolant with the oil until kenna white smoke, then you decide enough is enough spend money to check on leak because you desperate, car spend time at workshop and wife/girlfriend angry that you cannot take her around, then spend more roses and taxi money to keep her happy, then car gets fixed and you go to sleep better and have time to meet wife/girlfriend's desires. Maybe spend 200 bucks already.

See my equation correct or not? tongue.gif

All of you driving pre-millennium Swifts should come and discuss this in the Starlet Lovers section. We also got a core group of crazies who only go to Malaysia for servicing. Maybe can change the Starlet Lovers section to COE cars. Like wine, goes better with age. smile.gif

Wow! This is one hell of an extrapolation of an engine oil leak! Never knew an oil leak can be the cause of discord in the bedroom! [shocked][sweatdrop]

Gotta hand it to you boss...your equation seem to work out right though [thumbsup][laugh]

Took your advice; now trying out _______________5W30 from Amsoil 10W40.

Did you managed to locate where the leak comes from? Is it excessive or only a few drops of oil overnight?

When I got my COE car the last time, it wasn't leaking engine oil until I've done my first engine oil change. Then it started leaking but wasn't excessive, just about 5 ~ 6 drops when left overnight. My leak was from the oil seal between the engine and the gear box. If need to replace the oil seal must remove the gear box, which costs around $100 (forgot the actual quoted costs).unsure.gif So I just leave it alone, thinking of getting it fixed when I replace the clutch pad.......

But after about 6 months when I go for my regular oil change, the mechanic poured some sort of engine flush before replacing the oil, and somehow the leaking stopped after that oil change. Since then until now (almost 1 year ago), the leak had completely stopped.wink.gif
