The plugs are still in the box, waiting for my 20k servicing before I plug them in! I was wondering if it's ok to use the IK20 from 20k onwards rather than 10k as it's pretty much wasteful if I changed it at 10k. Argh! Why must you tell me about Aayla??!! I haven't watch Episode III yet!!! You should have ENTER-ed empty lines and written down SPOILER ALERT! You give them the choice, they will change it everytime you bring in your car for service, i.e. 5,000 km ! I think the manufacturer prevented this by stipulating in the owner manual the replacement interval which is 20,000 km for my 1.6 Optra. Notice that the 1.8 replace it at 60,000 km. I just went through my 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 servicing sheets, and there is no indication of change of sparkplugs. Do they change it for us at a regular interval, or do they wait until it pi-cha before changing? they will change at every 20K. Which I think is not good. The stock plugs, IMO, can't past 10K. So I normally change oil and plugs every 10K But I do have a set of new iridium plugs sitting in my glove compartment. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Cbx750p 1st Gear June 1, 2005 Share June 1, 2005 (edited) Yeah ! The plug is shorted because it is too cold ! You must use one heat range higher ! The plug is all blackened up meaning it did not have the chance to heat up fast enough for the engine ! You need to increase the heat range to rectify the complaint or drive much faster to suit the plug. That is the problem when you wonder out of the recommended plug by the manufacturer but thru trial and errors, you can find the right fix ! El69 Neutral Newbie June 1, 2005 Share June 1, 2005 Not true, my stock plugs also faced the same overheated problem at 10,000km. Core was burnt too. Now trying the Denso Iridium and hope it will handle the heat better. Crossed referenced the stock NGK plugs with Denso and the correct heat range should be the IK20. Cbx750p 1st Gear June 2, 2005 Share June 2, 2005 Plugs don't burn out but they melt down and in the event, cause pre-ignition, knocking, hole-in-piston syn, etc. What was your problem when you felt the plugs "burnt" out on ya ? Stalling, pinking or no-start ? Mine is running 28,000 km original and still going ! I will take it for inspection at 30K km but do not intend to change it ! Chevrolet can keep their recommendation to change the plugs at 20K km ! If I know plugs, they last a long time once the heat range is right ! Why would this still occurs? Looking thru NGK webby, i still not sure isit pre-ignation fouling or those wet fouling. But it seem more like pre-ignation fouling.
