Hi folks,

Need your opinion on this.

My friend was driving along the CTE when his rear tyre burst, he hitted the road barrier and his car made a 180 degree ski on the wet road.. Before he could do anything, he was facing the on-coming vehicle. Then he managed to turn the car 180 degree back to its original direction and make his way to the road shoulder. He was lucky that no other cars was involved.

His findings: There is a hole on the side wall of the tyre.

His Damage: Under carriage, drive shaft, side of the car. Total repair: At least 5k.

Question: As his tyre is only 2 weeks old, Can he file an 'claim' against the tyre company? It was the tyre that caused the accident.

2 weeks old?

Should claim directly to the tyre manufacturer.

Had an experience with Yokohoma tyres, learnt from friends that there are a few experiences with Yokohoma, some 10 years ago. Do not know now, your case might be similar.

On the other hand, didn't mean to throw cold water, hope you did not kerb your tyres before or run across metal plated roads fast, these are the common problem that damage your tyres, which lead to the blow out....had an experience with Yokohoma tyres.

How does running across metal plated roads fast damage your tyre?

I thought most tyre damage are caused by impact on the sidewall.

extreme impact at a right angle to the contact surface will cause the tyre to bulge just like that of what you described, it is the same theory. Hence I travell like 40kmh and below whenever I am on Paya Lebar, unless the MX 5.

There are a combination of issues that can arise from this.....sometime, we failed to check new tyres when it is given to us, like manufacturer date (more than 2 years that it), inherent damages,...I have a motto that is, "never trust your mechanic in Singapore".

Maybe your friend hit a nail while driving on the road. Does your friend live or work near construction sites ? Orr maybe he offended some people who then disturb his car ..
