Genie47 1st Gear June 21, 2005 Share June 21, 2005 60k if you want to be sure. Or simply take its price per plug (assuming you got it expensive) and divide it by the price regular plugs. Multiply this number by 10k and you will get the distance it should last to make it at least equal to the regular ones in mileage.
Protege 1st Gear June 21, 2005 Author Share June 21, 2005 I using Iridium for performance lah. Not for saving money. So 60k is safe??? I only at 20k. So still very very safe.
Genie47 1st Gear June 21, 2005 Share June 21, 2005 What performance? You buy Iridium to have a long lasting plug not performance.
Alant 1st Gear June 21, 2005 Share June 21, 2005 IMHO, would prefer normal spark plug and change to new ones every 10k Km.
Protege 1st Gear June 21, 2005 Author Share June 21, 2005 I got better response and FC with Iridium plugs. Thats why I say better performance. Anyway thanks for your recommendations on the 60k change thingy. I just need to confirm. Cheers!!
Apollo 1st Gear June 21, 2005 Share June 21, 2005 dun ask here... write to [email protected]. the local agent. IK series is the lowest grade. i wun haphazard a guess.
Protege 1st Gear June 21, 2005 Author Share June 21, 2005 Thanks for the information bro!! Will do that!!
Vtim 3rd Gear June 23, 2005 Share June 23, 2005 30k km will be just nice for a change, just remember to check the plugs at every 10k km interval just to be safe, most of the time it's the side electrode that will wear off and cause the spark gap to be widen
Protege 1st Gear June 23, 2005 Author Share June 23, 2005 Thank you bro!!! Got the information. Will change it at 30k!!!

Wahlao Neutral Newbie June 23, 2005 Share June 23, 2005 good idea to check every 10k during servicing, but iridiums do last longer than stock plugs. was told 100K
Hattee Neutral Newbie June 25, 2005 Share June 25, 2005 Denso recommendation at http://www.densoiridium.com/faq.php is 30,000 miles. Perhaps, wear depends on how often you rev beyond 3,000-4,000rpm. As it wears off, benefit of 25% lower firing voltage reduces. And probability of misfire gradually increases from the higher end rpm. Personally, 30,000km a good bet for our most expensive cars on earth. If you are intimately familiar with your toy, keep the old plugs. You've decided correctly if can notice the difference when passing those usual places going upslope, pickup with full pax, engine noise level etc. Otherwise, can still replace back. Of course there are those believing in dyno. But how close is it to driving? OEM recommendation is ok if you are not bothered by mild performance deterioration or ride quality. The recommendation probably does not have all considertion for car conditions, ignition design, driving habits, road conditions, fuel types etc. Dear All, I have been using my IK16 for 20k now. Going for my servicing and wondering how long it can last before I need to change it. Any bros with information??? Please help!!
Apollo 1st Gear June 25, 2005 Share June 25, 2005 again, like I've advoated, ask [email protected]. the FAQ is misleading to say the least. there r at least 3 range of performance plugs, including "Tough" formed by VK-series tat is touted as a 100,000km (dun believe me, ask ask wangtc) as compared to the "IK series" which also have a subset called "IKH" (longer plugs for GDI motors. Genie47 1st Gear June 25, 2005 Share June 25, 2005 ignition design, driving habits, road conditions, fuel types etc. Wasted spark firing, plug wears down very fast.
Hattee Neutral Newbie June 26, 2005 Share June 26, 2005 (edited) You pass sweeping statement like farting, now saying Denso FAQ is misleading. Edited June 26, 2005 by Hattee
Apollo 1st Gear June 27, 2005 Share June 27, 2005 i am not saying... i am typing the fact that there is more then 1 version of iridium plug by Denso and therefore the FAQ is being generalized. it's amazing that magical farts goes well with you as do FAQs. Kwongwing Neutral Newbie June 27, 2005 Share June 27, 2005 I don't know much about cars except that I used my Deson Iridium plugs (I think they were IK series) for about 50,000 km with no problems at all. In fact when I changed out the plugs, the mechanic told me that the plugs were still OK but I told him to change anyway. Generally the acceleration from standstill was better, and you could feel that the vehicle didn't drag that much though the vehicle I was driving then was not a performance vehicle - an 11-seater petrol driven MB100. ↡ Advertisement
