What Did You Makan Today PT 5

New Year's eve lunch at Good Chance Popiah Eating House yesterday with my mother-in-law, wife and kids. I prefer those cheaper and ready-to-eat popiahs at hawker centres to my self-rolled lousy popiah :) Followed by noodles at dinner with my mom, wife and kids at Encik Tan :) Lunch at Food Republic just now at a shopping mall before buying back-to-school shoes at Bata for my boy who has outgrown his existing pairs. My wife ended up buying new shoes for herself, me and our little girl as well :)

Dinner with my mom, sister, wife and kids at one of my favorite restaurants, Imperial Treasure Nan Bei :) The kids were most happy as they got to choose their own post Christmas gifts at the LEGO shop opposite the restaurant :) Fried white bait with salt and pepper Crab meat with corn soup Fish bone broth stewed with fish maw Hot and sour soup Fish soup stewed with Chinese herbs Fish ball noodle with mushroom and vegetable Deep fried prawn with mayonnaise Sauteed pea shoots Soon Hock Braised noodle with egg plant and XO sauce Durian pudding - that was mine :) Ice cream with grass jelly (this was not in the dessert menu, though the restaurant specially made 2 cups for my kids who requested for the combination) Walnut cream Almond cream Egg white souffle with red bean Osmanthus jelly Hopefully I had translated the names of the dishes from Mandarin to English correctly :)

Dinner at my parents-in-law's home :) My mom tried to cook white bee hoon after I brought her to White Restaurant where she found its signature dish nice :) Dishes that I had at home over the last couple of days:

Meals with my family over the Christmas season :) The meats: The vegetables: The soups: The fruits: Desserts were assorted macarons from TWG Tea, egg tarts from Tai Cheong Bakery and fresh milk with grass jelly - my boy likes the latter from a dessert shop and it costs almost $5 for a small cup, so I bought a big bottle of fresh milk and a big pack of sweetened grass jelly to improvise the dessert at home cost-effectively, and they were enough to make multiple cups :)

Home-cooked meals yesterday and today :) My favorite dish among them was the yong tau foo which my mom bought at wet market when I drove her there yesterday morning; it was very fresh and tasty :) Those glutinous rice balls with reddish skin were filled with peanuts, while those with white skin had black sesame inside. I do not like eating plain glutinous rice balls without any filling, as it would be like simply eating starch and a waste of calories :)

Dinners at home yesterday and today :) Western carrot cake from Bakeri for dessert. Er, I still prefer traditional fried carrot cake :)

I read this article about Treatsure, a mobile reservation platform created to minimize food wastage by reallocating surplus food from businesses to consumers. For $10.70, one could place a buffet reservation at a restaurant, and upon arriving receive a disposable container to take away as much food as he or she could fill in the container. One will need to plan properly to ensure that the variety of food he or she packs will mix well together. Otherwise the mere sight of the “rojak” may just spoil one’s appetite. Oops, I'm humbled and stand corrected :) I just checked with my mom and it is indeed what you wrote. It certainly does not taste like red bean which I conveniently quoted for lack of knowledge of its actual name :)

    Confusing Signals

Looks like the stars are aligning; all the best :) She looks very decent though she seems to be a little slim from her posture; you should feed her more :) Personally I like more meat at the right places, so figure wise, I prefer the lady in black shirt

You’re indeed observant! Yes, my mom would start boiling the lotus root slowly in the afternoon for the soup to be served at dinner, so that its goodness would go into the soup which would also be more flavorful. She had added red bean in this case, so that also contributed to the darker tone of the soup. On the other hand, my father-in-law would not boil the soup for hours, perhaps to maintain crunchiness of the lotus root. His soup also tasted very different, as he added wolfberry, red date and hawthorn among other herbs for their benefits and natural sweetness. Some of my relatives dislike eating lotus root too, and I found it rather wasteful when they just drank the soup and left the lotus root behind in their bowls. I asked my mom to serve them the soup with just a little or without the lotus root in future, and I could help with the extra lotus root :)

Dinner at my parents-in-law's home yesterday :) Dinner just now at home; my mom happened to make lotus root soup too, so I had that on consecutive days :)

I've meals at my parents-in-law's home a couple of times a week. My father-in-law usually does the cooking, as my mother-in-law helps to look after the grandchildren. Photos of his dishes yesterday :) Home-cooked meals by my mom over the past two days :) We had bee hoon and pumpkin rice for a change :)

In-house buffet lunch last week catered from my company's canteen for a customer visit. Many of my colleagues dislike our canteen food, and would rather travel outside for lunch, though I find the food not bad especially the buffets that are specially prepared when we order for customer visits. Perhaps I'm easy-going as I even found past army cookhouse food cooked by NS personnel acceptable, and since it was free I had never paid to eat at canteens even when given the choice during NS and reservist, though the cookhouse food certainly improved by leaps and bounds after it was outsourced to external caterer. My wife and I had ban mian for lunch today while waiting for my boy to finish his class. She packed lasi lemak from Crave for him, while I shared an ice cream from Mr Bean as dessert with my little girl :) I find it a healthier choice compared with other ice creams. We brought my mom to Putien for dinner just now. It has been a long time since I last patronized Putien and only decided to go there today as Spring Court which I had originally wanted to bring my mom was fully booked for a wedding function. The food at Putien was good though and the staff was very helpful and attentive, so I'll be visiting the restaurant more often :)
  13. Have you bought both pairs for yourself? You should be grateful that she has not kicked you off the bed tonight This year should be different with the inheritance disbursement :)

    MAZDA 6

For those who use the Papago GoSafe 360 dashcams that were installed by TEK in earlier Mazda 6 models, may I check whether you hear click click click (yes, exactly 3 clicks) sound coming from your front dashcam the moment it is powered on? I used to hear the clicking once in a while when switching on the dashcam, but recently it seems to emit the 3 clicks every time it is powered on, though it still functions as usual otherwise. The clicking sounds like a camera's shutter opening and closing in quick succession, even though there is no shutter in front of the lens. The sound does not bother me as it is rather faint and is emitted only at the moment the dashcam is powered on, but should I be concerned that the dashcam may be failing soon, so that it's time for me to start sourcing for a replacement? Thanks for your feedback!

Breakfast this morning - half healthy half unhealthy :) Dishes which I had at home for the past three days :) One of the rare occasions when I ate instant noodle and had two packs of it for lunch today due to a busy schedule when I had to see a good helper off at the airport, welcome a new one and shop for furniture with my wife for our new house :)
