  2. Not talking about performance zngs, but visual / decorative types.... Fins. side-skirts, GT-wings, etc are quite universal, but there are a few others sgp-only "zngs" which cannot be found outside sgp (ok, maybe also found in MY). I got a feeling the list will not be long though (coz we are not a very creative lots) 1. Put t-shirt to cover the backrest of front car seats 2. Put coloured paper slips which come with pre-punched holes/flaps on dashboard, usually in carpark or roadsides.. 3. Put AMG decals/stickers on a Hyundai car!! or RallyArt on a Honda, TRD on a Nissan, Nismo on a Mazda... 4. that's all i can think of, if you can add one or two more, you're really observant / creative

  4. i'm not xenophobia, but i dun quite fully agree with our gahmen's FT policy either [sly] inspired by the thread "i hate green smelly things", i hereby create this thread of things that are uniquely singapore and may never be understood by foreigners unless they are born here... they may know ION orchard or vivo but they may not know these places national theatre (demolished) singapore national library (demolished) they go to NDP parades but they may not know last time NCC wore temasek green uniform and how to sing: "C130 rolling down the strip, air-born rangers taking little trip. stand up hook up shuffle to the door, jump right down at the count of four" "training to be a soldier, to fight for our land. once in our life, two years of our time. have you ever wonder, why we must serve? because we love our land, and want it to be free, to be free!" they think singapore is safe, but in the late 80s and early 90s, 街头党 roamed the schools "ah ah sa luk gao (3 6 9), sin ka por, bo beh zao!" (forgot the actual song) they know sun yanzi, JJ lim, tanya... but they may not know 新谣 "巫启贤 - 邂逅" "梁文福 - 历史考试前夕" "姜鄠 - 恋之憩" and many more... good or bad, these is singapore culture... and only true blue singaporeans will feel attached to it... feel free to contribute...
  5. Read this in the forum.....I feel sad for the state of helplessness in Singapore for the lesser mortals amoung us. http://forums.asiaone.com/showthread.php?t...4&page=6#52 Dear forummers, Thank you for your interest in this article. I am the son of this the victim, mr Lee. I have been trying to get witnesses to come forward to help me prosecute the aggressor by pasting posters on on the walls. Unfortunately, none have come forward. When I interviewed the hawkers present, I believe many of them genuinely did not see what happened. That is because they mentioned usually before acts of violence, there will usually be shouting first and they would notice. Many of them told me, the moment they saw anything, my father was already on the floor, bleeding onto himself and the road. From here, it was clear that the conversation was never that aggressive as my father did not shout at the attacker. But the attacker simply did not manage to control his temper. I am reading that many of you want to exact revenge on this attacker, and you don't know even know my dad. Imagine how I feel as his son. I feel even worse that the police has said that we need to actively apply to the subordinate courts for a magistrate to approve for an investigation to begin. This is inspite of the man actually admiting loudly to the police on scene that he was the one that hit my dad. I implore all -please do not take justice into your own hands. It is not the right way and the ethical way. Let the courts do its work and please do not take vigilante actions. But I will ask for anyone who was there on the morning of 13th May Wednesday to PM me and come forward as a witness so that I can help my father get justice. The person was a man in his early 40s, driving a black toyota camry by the car plate number SJF8233S. He was wearing black business pants and a light coloured business shirt. He was there with his wife and a maid. If you did see this incident, I hope you can help me out. Thanks all Kelvin

  7. Middle-age suicide rate up: report By Lee U-Wen, TODAY | Posted: 29 August 2007 1001 hrs SINGAPORE: The figures point to a worrying trend - more men in their 40s and women in their 50s have committed suicide since 2003. In that year, there were 14 suicides for every 100,000 men in their 40s, according to government figures released yesterday. This increased to 19 per 100,000 last year. For women, there were eight suicides per 100,000 of those in their 50s in 2003. The figure rose to 13 per 100,000 last year. According to earlier media reports, 419 people took their lives last year, up from 346 in 2003. Still, Singapore's overall suicide rate for those between 45 and 54 years old is lower than that of places such as Hong Kong, Japan and Switzerland, said Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. Nonetheless, the rates reflected a "worrying trend" as each suicide was a "tragic loss" for both the family and community, he said in a written reply to a question posed by Hougang MP Low Thia Khiang. Dr Balakrishnan also revealed that an Inter-Ministry Working Group on Mental Health, chaired by Ministry of Health permanent secretary Yong Ying-I, had been formed to study ways to improve the mental and emotional resilience of Singaporeans. "I don't find the rates for those in their 40s and 50s surprising," said Dr Ang Yong Guan, chairman of the Action Group for Mental Illness. "What's paradoxical is the correlation that when the economy does well, the suicide rates go up." He added: "It could be because people start seeing those around them becoming more successful, so they start to feel affected. This is unlike a recession, where everyone does not do well." Dr Balakrishnan also noted that each suicide case "is unique" and often accompanied by a combination of problems. "Contributing factors such as personality traits, mental health and socio-cultural environment may also play a role." To mark Suicide Awareness Week, which is held between Sept 22 and 29, the Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) is organising two forums that will address issues like how to help someone with suicidal tendencies. SOS' latest annual report said that more women attempted suicide than men. Chinese women, married and between 20 and 30 years old, appeared to be the most vulnerable. Marital and family relationship problems were the main reasons. Meanwhile, the Government will pump more resources into mental health promotion and treatment. The Health Promotion Board, with other public agencies and the private sector, is expanding such programmes, said Dr Balakrishnan. - TODAY/ym -----------
