  2. Hubby was driving my car. Received call from TP suddenly saying that there was a hit-and-run by my car. Finally found out that the "hit-and-run" was when hubby came out of parking lot and accidently hit the side of another car, causing the other car bumper to fall off. He was not aware that he had hit the other car. My car camera showed that his exit from parking lot was smooth and there was no sudden stop by my car. He also did not exit the car to check or anything like that. My car (Merc) showed some paint on the back passenger (right side) door. Upon some washing, all was removed and only a tiny small pen hole dent as found. Hubby then received a notice of offence from TP. 2 offences - careless driving ($200 + 6 points) and $200 for failing to stop after accident. Hubby said to just pay up and close case. But I feel its rather unfair and he should appeal. Any advice?
  3. Just my bad luck today to have my car vandalised - at least that's what its classified by police (mischief to vehicle?) - and the suspect did not manage to get away; luckily delayed by security staff until police arrived. As usual, with no bodily harm, police just take statements and let everyone go. I was only told not to take law into my own hands and to "avoid" the suspect! Apparently, vandalism of private property is pretty much "ownself" business to pursue with the courts, or drop the case. But I think this is no surprise already... even though there was a CCTV recording, according to the security. My question to those who have suffered their car being vandalised, how is this kind of case pursued, and to what outcome? I belive there were some cases discussed in this forum before, with video evidence captured? I was only told to get a hard copy of the police report and go to file a complaint at the sub court, which is going to be quite long drawn out, I predict, and costly. I'm more worried this is some 'psycho' fellow who will keep a lookout for my vehicle for other mischief, so if action not taken, he may become bolder. Lodging police report is just one step to have a record in case of future problem, even if police can't do anything.
  4. Im currently looking at a lancer ex gt manual which left abt less than 4 years life span. so far there already 3 owner to this vehicle. Was hoping to drive til scrap ( if i can lah ) but was told by many people that the moment this car go pass my hand can consider paper value cause no dealer will offer anything higher if i plan to sell and no buyer dare to buy because they will think 4 owner = car many problem. Somemore its manual which mean that resale is also low. Depre is at about 9.7k annually so not sure whether is worth it...

  6. Need advice from the experienced seniors here. I was involved in an accident in early 2012. I was hit from behind by a taxi when I stopped on red at a traffic junction. To cut the long story short, the case only concluded earlier this year with the courts ruling either 80% or 90% in my favor, with all compensation paid. I thought that was the end of it. However, I received a letter today, from a lawyer acting on behalf of the passenger claiming to be in the taxi at the time of accident. The letter is demanding for my particulars, insurance details, copy of police report etc, threatening legal action against me if I do not reply within 7 days. The letter was sent via normal mail and not registered mail. I thought these details are easily available from TP as long as they pay for the report? I don't quite like the threatening tone of the letter. Can I just ignore it?
  7. Anyone have any experience with balloon scheme cars which have reached the end of the term and needed to be scrapped ? I know that last instalment for cars under balloon scheme is normally the parf value of the car, hence, I would like to know if it is possible to surrender the car to the finance company during the last instalment month and let them sort it out themselves. The car I am driving now is a bit complicated issue as the owner has passed away and I took over the car few months before she passed away. Still have until July next year to drive and I am worried about the last instalment to the finance company since car is not under my name. Appreciate advise and assistance from fellow forumers. TIA
  8. Hi all, need your advice on a dangerous situation which I had encountered twice. My office car park has steep and curving ramps. On two occasions, while I was driving the upward ramp, the car in front of me stopped. When my car moved off from a standstill while on the upward slope, it could not move and the rear wheels kept spinning so much that smoke appeared and there was thick rubber smell. I had to resolve the problem by reversing and moving up again. Fortunately no car was behind my car. I called my regular mechanic and asked whether it was due to tyre problem and he said it may not be the case because I had changed tyres a year ago. He said the ramp surface may be too smooth or as it was a curve, one of the wheels was not in contact with the road. However, I have never seen other cars having the same problem in the same car park. My car is rear wheel drive and I had tried to engage low gear whenever I went up slope in the car park after the first incident but it happened again. Do you think I should change a new set of tyres with better grip? I search online and read that when negotiating an upward slope after a standstill, a better way is to drive up gently instead of gunning it up as sending too much power to the wheels will cause tyre losing traction. Other suggested reducing tyre air pressure for better grip. Any constructive advice is most welcome. Thank you.
