  1. I happened to watch some of the MediaCorp New Year celebration last night. Wasn't expecting such a mediocre performance by the invited artistes in general. But what was most surprising was the VW golf mk 7 sitting atop the stage and all the advertisements and segments. Anyone was put off by this? I certainly was. Why would MediaCorp invite such a marketing ploy for a big event like this? Surely something could be done in light of the COE situation. (I'm not against VW btw - just think the marketing is too aggressive)
  2. IF YOU are driving in Malaysia, avoid driving over newspaper strewn on the roads as they may be traps set up by carjackers. The latest ploy of carjackers? They set up newspapers traps on the roads, filled with nails and force you to stop your car by puncturing your tyres. According to a STOMP report, the carjacking technique orginated from Indonesia by is no widely adopted by the robbers in Malaysia. A reader, Concern, wrote in an email to the citizen journalism website with stories of carjacking traps to share. He said: "Avoid driving over newspapers strewn on the road. "Some people have lost their lives over this. They drive into certain lonely roads in Jakarta to find pieces of wood with nails in them on the road. This causes their tyres to go flat. "If they get out of their cars, they are set upon by robbers who will take everything they can: car, wallet, anything valuable and sometimes their lives." According to the reader, similar incidents have happened in Kuala Lumpur. He wrote: "This person was driving alone at night when he saw newspapers lying around in the middle of the road. "Without giving it much thought, he drove over them. No one would expect to find heaps of rocks and stones beneath the paper. "He stopped to check the damage. The moment he got out of his car, he was robbed by a group of guys and lost his properties/belongings. Just imagine what would have happen if the driver was a woman. The reader urged drivers to be careful, and "do not stop when you're driving alone at night, no matter what happens." "Avoid driving over newspaper on the road, this could be a new trick for desperate people out there."
  3. As the abv title. Got it from stomp. One of the more useful articles that can be beneficial to fellow mcfers. If you're driving in Johor and someone tosses an egg at your windscreen, turning on the windscreen wiper might just land you in hot soup, according to STOMPer Alex. The STOMPer explains why: "Planning a weekend drive up North? Take heed. "This is a new technique used by robbers in Johor Bahru. "If you are driving at night and someone throws an egg at your windscreen, do not turn on your windshield wiper or activate the water jet. You should drive with a dirty windscreen until you reach a safer place. "When egg mixes with water it creates a milky mixture that can block your vision up to 92.5%. You are then forced to stop at the roadside and may become a victim of robbers. "Please inform your friends and relatives and take this seriously." http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...#commentSection
  4. Dear all fellow car owners, I would like to invite you guys to share your experience on the agents when servicing claming Warranty etc. Please share base on any of the following Cat. 1) Agent Name 2) PRICE of basic maintence Service. 3) WORKMANship quality 4) Ease of claiming warranty 5) Is the warranty easily Void 6) If we choose to void warranty, will we save more when we get outside Service centre? 7) Any Unhappy Experience with Authorized Agent or even PI. 8) The competency of the Service Crew. Seasoned or Green on the job training crew. I like to share one of my negative experience as a Consumer point of view. I felt that Agent gave the 3 years warranty is to give them the opportunity to earn even more then the Cars that they sold. I when to C&C to service my Lancer, I wanted to bring in own Engine oil. They say cannot, told me will void warranty. I bring in same brand same specs of Engine oil. Shell Hylix Ultra. They won't even allow. I can get it cheaper from outside, I do not mind paying labour charges. When I service by them. They have Engine Oil in OIL DRUM, which means they buy in bulk and then RIP us off, made us pay more for the Shell hylix Ultra than we pay for off the shelves Shell Hylix Ultra. CourFour, during Sale sold @ $60 (4litre bottle) Currently the Basic maintence Package cost $162. It is really expensive. It is really upsetting to see your car being molested by in-experienced on the job training Trainee Crew. The price outside cost cheaper , like $130 with Engine Oil plus get an EXPERIENCEd Old bird to do for you. Sigh! Anyway please feel free to Recomend Value for money Worshop for servicing. The aim for this Thread is to let fellow drivers know what they are getting from the Authorized agent and PI. Is that really worth it. And also share the good news among drivers when they wanted to have a good deal . Please do not zap me or anything I just want to create a sharing of information so that All END user can all benefits from The purpose is to take agent into consideration when choosing cars 1) When Buying Car, take into consideration the reputation of Agent and the quality of the service team. 2) Obtain good and value for moeny information Auto Car service like, spray paint cost, Repair cost etc. 3) Know who are the bad hats in the Authorized agent and PT. 4) Discuss on : Should we buy cars without warranty ? So that we buy at the cheapest price possible? Cheers Happy Sharing Gimmy
  5. Caught up last night with a friend with over 20 yrs experience in the insurance industry. Apparently, there's still many cases of workshops deploying their own cars (usually old ones) to deliberately E-brake and cause the car behind to brake and cause a chain collission. The workshop car would then drive away (if they are not hit from behind). Tough to clamp down on these cases, as it is hard to proof that the driver deliberately braked to cause an accident. A tow truck would then appear out of no where (amazing, isn't it?). They love to operate in the morning and evening peak periods, esp on Mondays when people are still sleepy from their weekend late nights or tired after a long day at work. This is one of the reasons why insurance premiums are so high. Please drive carefully and not tail gate. Do not give these syndicates an opportunity to make money out of your misfortune.
