  1. How time flies. Today is the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen crackdown. I wonder happened to this iconic guy? Was he arrested and executed or is he living a quiet life somewhere?
  2. Welcome to PW2 Teck Lee LRT station, the station that remained shut for more than 12 years since the Punggol LRT system opened in 2005. Situated on the west loop of the Punggol LRT, trains supposedly pass by this station without stopping, as seen in the video below. The station seems to be somewhat rundown — covered with dirt, looking fairly weathered. Even the map in the station is the really old version. I guess it will take another decade for the station to be opened https://mothership.sg/2017/12/teck-lee-lrt-not-open/
  3. By Wong Siew Ying | Posted: 24 April 2012 CNA SINGAPORE: Leasing demand for residential properties in Singapore remained robust in the first two months of this year as transactions hovered above 3,000 each month, according to Savills Research. Its data showed that there were 3,446 leasing transactions in February 2012, down 5 percent on-month. But Savills said February's transactions were still higher than the 2,767 transactions recorded a year ago. Based on deals closed by Savills, the average rent for studio apartments and one-bedroom units was S$6.21 per square foot per month in Q1 2012. Savills said selected small-format units were seen fetching attractive rents, particularly for the centrally-located properties. These included a 600-square-foot unit at The Suites at Central along Devonshire Road, which was rented for S$5,000 per month. It was followed by two 592-square-foot units at Martin Place Residences along Martin Road, which were let at S$4,200 per month. By square footage, the highest rent was for a 458-square-foot studio apartment at Iluminaire on Devonshire which was rented at S$8.73 per square foot per month. Savills said rents were equally attractive among the smallest units. Three 334-square-foot units at Prestige Heights along Balestier Road were let for between S$2,200 and S$2,450 per month or between S$6.40 and S$7.34 per square foot per month. Based on data released by the Urban Redevelopment Authority, island-wide median rents of all non-landed properties, excluding executive condominiums, continued to rise to S$3.53 per square foot per month in February, increasing 1 percent on-month and 8 percent on-year. Savills said the leasing transaction value for the first two months has reached S$35 million, 15 percent higher than the previous year. The average monthly rent of high-end non-landed residential properties tracked by Savills was S$5.17 per square foot per month in Q1 2012, dipping 2 percent on-quarter. On a year-on-year basis, prime rents fell 5 percent from S$5.45 per square foot per month in Q1 2011. Savills added that with a continual relocation of expatriates from troubled economies in the West, leasing demand continues to strengthen in Singapore, putting greater upward pressure on rents. - CNA/al
  4. saw this article published on CASE website are we missing something here? or am i the only one feeling this statement is off "331 out of 611 (54%) stalls sold cooked food at $2.50 or lower", and i dont think the $2.50 portion is sufficient for most of us, even if it is really true http://www.case.org.sg/news.html 9 June 2011 Media Release HAWKER FOOD REMAINS AFFORDABLE FOR SINGAPOREANS According to a survey conducted by the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE), prices of cooked food sold in non air-conditioned coffeeshops and hawker centres remain affordable in April. The survey focused on five common food items: chicken nasi briyani, chicken rice, fishball noodles, roti prata (plain) and mixed vegetables rice (consisting of two vegetables and one meat), based on the cheapest single portion available. A total of 611 stalls in four zones– North, South, East and West, were surveyed. Survey findings show that 331 out of 611 (54%) stalls sold cooked food at $2.50 or lower. Chicken rice stalls hold the highest percentage (about 70%) of stalls selling their hawker fare at $2.50 or less. However, majority of Chicken Nasi Briyani stalls retail at $4.50. Figures 2.1 to 2.5 in the Appendix show the percentage of stalls with food prices in a particular range. CASE also came across 28 stalls that offered competitive prices on food items and would like to highlight them. Please refer to figure 3.1 of the Appendix for more details. The survey also found: 1. 4 out of 611 (0.65%) stalls charged for take-away. The amount charged for take-away was 20 cents on average. 2. 11 out of 67 (16.4%) of roti prata stalls required customers to purchase a minimum of 2 pieces of roti prata (plain). 3. The modal prices for chicken nasi briyani, chicken rice, fishball noodles, mixed vegetables rice and roti prata were $4.50, $2.50, $2.50, $2.50 and $0.80 respectively. 4. The majority of stalls displayed their prices clearly on signboards. CASE encourages all hawker stall owners to display the prices of food items prominently so that consumers can make informed choices. In this survey, 2 stalls had inconsistent pricing with what was displayed on their signboards. One of them charged $4.50 for chicken nasi briyani when the signboard displayed a price of $4, while the other stall charged $5 for chicken nasi briyani when the signboard displayed a price of $5.50. In conclusion, the survey findings showed that affordable food is still available at hawker centres and coffeeshops. CASE encourages consumers to patronise stalls that continue to offer good value for money. CASE will continue to monitor the prices of cooked food as we believe it will spur hawkers to keep their prices competitive for consumers. Yeo Guat Kwang CASE President
  5. Taken from http://sg.news.yahoo.com/ap/20090726/tsp-c...sa-6e81073.html By PABLO GORONDI,Associated Press Writer AP - Monday, July 27 BUDAPEST, Hungary - Ferrari driver Felipe Massa remained in "life-threatening" but stable condition on Sunday following surgery on multiple skull fractures.ADVERTISEMENT Peter Bazso, the AEK hospital medical director, told reporters that Massa would remain sedated until Monday, but will be woken up periodically during that time. When asked whether Massa's life remained in danger, Bazso answered: "Yes, of course." Bazso said doctors were able to "remove the broken bones and stabilize the area," which was necessary since Massa arrived with "an open skull fracture and a contusion." He did not specify how long it would take Massa to recover, or whether there would be any long-term effects of the injury. "At the moment, we have to overcome this life-threatening condition," Bazso said, adding that a CT scan revealed "expected results after an operation of this type." Massa's parents and wife arrived after flying in from Brazil, and doctors woke Massa temporarily to check on his condition and so that he could see his family. Team principal Stefano Domenicali and several Ferrari staff were also on hand to support Massa's family, which included pregnant wife Anna Rafaela. Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo was scheduled to visit on Monday, while fellow Brazilian driver Rubens Barrichello was buoyed by the news he received from a doctor at the hospital when he visited after the Hungarian Grand Prix, although he didn't personally see Massa. "For me I can leave it in peace because he's going to be fine," Barrichello said. "The improvements from yesterday were quite good and that most probably he's going to be OK." At the Hungaroring circuit, Ferrari's garage displayed a banner reading "Forza Felipe Siamo Con Te" _ or "Be Strong Felipe, We Are With You." "Yesterday was a quite sad day to not see Felipe with us today," said race winner Lewis Hamilton, who battled Massa for the 2008 championship. "We miss him and wish him well and wish him a speedy recovery." The spring from Barrichello's Brawn GP car bounced into Massa's helmet as the 28-year-old driver reached speeds of about 120 mph. The impact concussed Massa, who then plowed into the protective tire barrier. "That's the job we do. We don't want to get too carried away with it," Red Bull's Mark Webber said. "He'll be fine. We missed him on the grid but the show must go on." The impact of the rear suspension part, believed to be made of steel, damaged the left side of Massa's helmet, ripping out the visor and leaving a long dent on its side. Blood was visible on Massa's left brow. Barrichello said the incident weighed on his mind Sunday. "I would be lying if in the middle of the race it didn't sometimes come to my mind. It's a friend," he said. "Not because the spring came from my car _ it could have come from any car so I'm not actually (blaming) myself for that." The crash came less than a week after Henry Surtees, the son of former F1 champion John Surtees, died in similar circumstances in an F2 race last Sunday. Surtees was struck in the head by a tire from another car, causing him to lose consciousness and drive into a barrier. FIA would investigate the crash, which is commonplace for the governing body. "It was very unfortunate what happened. (But) we have phenomenal safety in Formula One," Webber said. "Yesterday was terrifically freakish." No F1 driver has died on the track since Ayrton Senna's crash at Imola 15 years ago. The three-time champion died from head injuries after a violent crash.
  6. The latest news is that she is not going away after all, and Goodyear is not going to take on the CEO role after all. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin.../443811/1/.html
  7. My car was involved in an accident at a T-Junction few months back. A JB lady biker collided against the right side of my car. The damage was pretty serious and the repair cost was over 8k. I was thinking this time xiao liao. My hard earned 50% NCD confirm gone liao due to high repair cost and worst still, the accident took placed at a T-junction. The only withness at the site was a JB car which saw the whole accident I dare not ask the driver of JB car to be withness because I'm afraid he might help the JB lady biker instead despite she was in the wrong. I had an on board camera which record my driving journey but sway sway was removed due to the process of upgrading to a more powerful camera. I could have a recorded video showing that I was apoarching the traffic light in green when the accident took place. Few days later, I received a letter from TP stating that they will investigate the accident as the lady biker was injured and given MC for a couple of days. Later, I received another letter from TP. The letter says that the investigation shows that the accident was caused by the JB biker and they will issue a warning to her. I faxed the letter to my motor insurance company and wait for the outcome. And I'm surprised that they tell me accident was not caused by me so my 50% NCD remain untouch but there will be loading to my premium due to high repair cost. This is the first time I like TP so much...hee hee
