It all started with this:

Two arrested at Beach Road shop which sold rifle parts

'Illegal rifle part sold out? Order from me'

March 19, 2010

A man and a woman were arrested yesterday at the Golden Mile Shopping Centre for selling parts of a rifle.

The raid started at about 3.35pm, and police spent about an hour searching the shop, which is on the third level.

If the price is right, it appears everything from a rifle firing pin to a bolt carrier – essential parts of the powerful M16 rifle – can be made available.

The New Paper first became aware of the illegal trade after a posting on Stomp. One netizen claiming to be an NSman said he was willing to sell his military gear for quick cash.

A police spokesman said Mindef and the police have conducted joint raids at the food centre previously.

A male stallholder was charged in court in 2006 for fraudulent possession of M16 magazines and was jailed six weeks.

yah man..anyone with basic knowledge in using a lathe machine and has the materials can do it with ease..

Yes easy to turn, but also easier to break if the item is not properly harderned to withstand the force. :D

People had tried it before.

Supersonic

I feel very sorry for these stallholders. After all, they're not selling complete guns, nor can anyone build a complete gun using only the parts being sold at these places. In other words, there is no danger to the public. But they are helping the unfortunate NSF/NS people who would otherwise have been screwed till jialat for losing a piece of metal.

Which is why I hate this sort of "investigative" reporter - it's a very dishonourable job when it helps to crack someone else's ricebowl. And they only go for the soft targets (the peasants). If these damn reporters are so garang, ask them to go and properly investigate and report on our own gahmen's skeletons in the closet. I'm sure there are many. [rolleyes]

Though it is kinda illegal but at least they are not harming anyone life after all. The person who found out and go tell the media is sure a basket to all.

Firing Pin is removed from all rifles during major parades for security reasons. Its one of the safeguard measures.

Wouldn't want to have an unaccounted firing pin floating out there on NDP.

guess what..

if it happens that during ns, we have lost the firing pin and do not want to be caught?, we would have to go there and buy mah...

we would be thankful that they got sell it...

so its kinda of a double edged sword

got demand -> got supply

thats y our firing pin in lost during NS.

Hmm... Depending on how you see it, your Sarg may have handed you a death ticket

Properly maintaining your weapon will reduce the occurance of ia, especially in close combat situation. If you have seen marines training, many do their arms and body maintenance while waiting. Body maintenance in a "good" way.. pumps and crunches etc

Of course, if you're doing it while your weapon was always working well, and you only have 5 seconds to move from one room to the other, it is throughly deserving

If we need to handle our NS "wifey", make sure we are so familiar with her until we can strip and assemble it blind folded. And when we shoot, we can handle her like part of our body...
