One Motoring celebrates 10th anniversary with a sundown car rally

I took part in my second car rally (the first was the National Family Celebrations car rally in June) last Saturday and got SuperAdrianMe and his partner Dennis to join me as a team.   It was a first for both of them non-car enthusiasts, so it was only natural that I was the driver for the team. Using my humble Mitsubishi Lancer CS3, we reported at 5pm at Beaulieu House, Sembawang Park.   There were 36 teams altogether, mostly families and also couples or trios of friends. We were given a Ga

COE & Modifying Cars

The inspiration for modifying my Swift In my previous post, I was counting down to the delivery of my new car. And I had mentioned making mental modification plans for it. All along, in my car crazed brain, it was accepted as the norm that I would modify any car I buy. It was only a matter of degree.   But with the recent spike in COE prices since I collected my car, another dimension to the decision to modify my car has been thrown up. Yes, you heard me right. Beyond affecting your car pri

Mini All 4 Countryman goes Dakar rallying - Gosh, it looks strange!

While I totally fancy the current BMW Mini I find that the newly launched Countryman is a mini too far. Or in other words, there is nothing 'Mini' about it and it distorts the image of what a Mini is to such an extent that it looks pretty monstrous. And imagine when my discomfort when I found out that the Monster Energy X-raid team has unveiled the new MINI ALL4 'Countryman' racing which will compete in the 2011 Dakar rally series. A Monster team driving a monster Mini. How appropriate.   So t

Meeting Daigo Saito

Having slept at 3am and getting up at 5.30am for my 7.10am flight in the morning, I arrived in Kuala Lumpur feeling stoned. After queueing at customs for nearly an hour, I made my way to Dataran Merdeka where Formula Drift Malaysia is being held this year.   The pre-event press conference on Friday started at about 10.30am where some of the drivers were present to answer questions from the media and also share their thoughts on the upcoming weekend.     After that there were photo ta

Nothing beats the convenience of driving

Despite the numerous accolades and praise heaped on our public transport system, it remains the truth that a significant majority of Singaporeans still find that nothing beats the convenience of owning your own set of wheels. And I suspect that no matter how much more our public transport system improves, there will still be a large number of car owning and driving Singaporeans.   I have been endeavouring to utilize a mix of public transport along with driving. And from experience, public tran

Toyota Etios - A Toyota for emerging nations or for all nations?

Cars have grown in size over the years. In the late 1960s the Toyota Corolla was a tiny, tiny car. It was about the size of a peanut, or a Perodua Kelisa with a boot. It then grew into something the size of a decent sized 4 door car in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s. It was basically the size of the current Toyota Vios or the earlier Soluna. And then by the 1990s, it grew into something slightly larger, more comfortable and heavier. By 2010, the Corolla had grown into a bulbous car the
