Ungrateful AMDK cyclist shows middle finger to driver who gives way

Another day, Another Rude Cyclist. We have an AMDK cyclist suka suka riding on the roads again.

This video was taken along South Bridge Rd, near Chinatown Complex. It was circulated on a whatsapp group yesterday, featuring a driver and a cyclist trying to figure out who's more to blame.

From the video, you can tell that the driver switched lanes because he wanted to overtake the cyclist and turn left. However, upon coming to a turn, he realises it's better to let the cyclist go – but he realises this a little late. His car cuts into the left lane and presumably scares the cyclist. Unsurprisingly, the cyclist brazenly thanks him with a middle-finger before driving off.

Firstly, that's a really offensive middle-finger. Secondly, the cyclist should wait for the pedestrian green-light to go straight, since he didn't have any intention to turn left. Thirdly, I can only imagine the rage of the driver.

LTA states that while cyclists have the right to ride on the middle of roads, they should "obey all traffic signals and travel in the same direction as the flow of traffic". The cyclist clearly didn't care about the turn-left-only lane he was on.

They should also "always ride as close as practicable to the left-hand edge of roads, and allow traffic to overtake you safely". This effectively means that cyclists should give way to faster vehicles. Even though the video doesn't show what happened at the side, judging from his middle-finger, I'm guessing that he was mad that the driver was trying to overtake him. Therefore, this guy clearly had no intention of even letting the traffic overtake him.

I get it, the cyclist had a rude shock but that middle-finger is uncalled for. Being at fault but thinking you're right is a personality trait most road cyclists have, especially the ones who end up online. I feel sorry for the cyclist's loved ones – that attitude isn't going to get him very far, literally. Read the road laws for cycling, dude.

  • A 20-year journey, an old passion rekindled

For us 90s babies, the Holy Trinity of Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network formed a big part of our childhood. The internet was just about coming into fruition, with the rise of a plethora of websites with numerous entertaining flash games and of course, the early days of YouTube. And though those things have come and gone, one thing in my life remained constant: My love for Pokemon. I first got into Pokemon 20 years ago, and I remember exactly how it went down. Let me set the

Less caffeine leads to more dreams

There's nothing like a double espresso to kickstart your morning, especially if it's extracted from medium- or dark-roasted beans. What a tasty way to begin the day. I enjoy coffee, but I'm not a caffeine addict so it's not a must for me to consume. In fact, lately, I've only been drinking it once or twice a week - doing this ensures that when I do drink it (to power my way through a hectic day), the caffeine kick will be well and truly felt. I did not stop drinking coffee thrice a day

    The art of doing nothing?

Here’s a quick fun fact for those who’ve sworn themselves entirely off TikTok, out of the fear of having to run yet another social media account: You don’t actually need to log in to the app to scroll it. Quite incredibly (but also quite scarily), the platform’s algorithm is still able to curate an incredible array of videos that it thinks will make you want to keep scrolling. And for this existential-crisis-ridden 28-year old, it’s decided to feed videos more along the 'self-help’ route re

Why oolong tea could be the superior drink of choice at lunch

Coffee - without sugar! - has long been (and still is) my go-to option to accompany my lunch. Amidst a larger 2025 goal of reducing the number of cups of kopi-o kosong I gulp down a week, however, I’ve recently thought about how my lunch experience can be switched up slightly with yet another sugarless drink: A can, or indeed bottle of oolong tea. Oolong tea is said to offer a perfect balance of flavour and functionality - perfect not just for complementing one's meal but also reinvigo
