Fortress Clutched July 29, 2005 Share July 29, 2005 (edited) Maybe you can enlighten me. As I am informed by my old racing team members who are working with the developments of cars from Japan that they are still designing cars for 3 years as they are still scraping them in 3 years. Means it will last more than that with safety factors built in. I cannot speak for your dad's car, as it defers with car to cars, drivers, usage etc. Had driven an E36 before and maintained it myself. The different is that most continental cars owners overseas maintain their own car, which many Singapore do not. Hence, the cost and the possiblities of being taken for a ride. An example will be the alternators for most Japanese car, which the casing cannot be open unlike those in continental. I have just changed just 2 months ago, my 15 years old Lotus Esprit Turbo SE gearbox(a notorious problem and the gearbox company has closed down). I was quoted S$25,000, was a little upset and did a change myself, using a RS gearbox, which cost me S$3,000 and my effort to replace, thanks to the Japanese government for scraping 3 years old car. Aspri Clutched August 3, 2005 Share August 3, 2005 I will pick Focus based on the 2 choices given above. I find the Focus a better drive and equally safe. If only we can have the 115bhp version. Focus sedan is the better looking choice. Interior is alright only. They took away that silver cover on the spokes of the steering wheel so that makes it even uglier. The locally fitted audio just doesn't cut it. If you have to get a Megane, pick the HB! However, if you ask me to pick an outside contender, I will pick Astra for its MTA gearbox, fuel economy, solid build and nice exterior/interior.
