besides the association with F1, personally feel that the Megane is a pretty good looking car. looks stylish on the outside, and classy inside. especially like the "aviation-styled" handbrake.

Go to www.renaultcarclub.com - Home of renault owners....hahah as well as complaints [furious]

So far my Renualt Megane has not given me any problem. Excellent ride comfort & handling. For 70K, can't find any car that provides the features, comfort & handling like the Megane, seriously speaking.

both Focus and Megane are bread & butter models of their

companies. think that they are kind of good in some ways

or another. it depends on what you want.

On style, thou Focus has lost some of its funky shape,

it is still one of the most stylist hatch on the road today.

Megane, on the other hand, looks well-designed for a sedan,

the hatch is subjective to individual (a love-hate factor).

When it comes to technology, Renault is better, in terms

of many gadgets functionality.

When it comes to handling, Focus the one, see n further.

But Regent Motor only brings in models with Duratec engines,

quite a disappointment.

Just a ley man 2 cent's worth of why I bought the Megane II and eliminated other choices....

I owned a Megane II sedan and have test driven the new Ford Focus (twice at LengKee), Citron C4 (once at LengKee) and the new Open Astra (2 times, on the 1.6 at Ubi and 1.8 at LengKee)

I think the issue here should boil down to

1) What are you using the car for?

2) Who else is using the car

3) Budget - value for money

I would say that if I am single and the only person driving the car, then Opel Astra would be a good choice. It is a very torquey and has lots of features. Certainly the best engine among the whole lot.

But the boot space and legroom space pales in comparison with the Megane II. As I drive my family on long distance trips up north, I wouldn't want my passengers to be complaning of leg cramps or that I have to say "Dear, we have to leave your Versace bag at home". [sweatdrop] Ditto for the Astra.

Citron "Explosives" C4 is probably another single man's car and is rather pricey. Unless I am WRC fan (which I am not), ditto for the C4 too.

So the choices left to the Focus or Megane.

No doubt the Focus is a stylish car and has ESP (telekenesis [laugh] )control but at $76K, it is pricer than the Megane II. On top of that, RM seems to rip customers off, if you want additional things like foot rest (+1K), arm rest +(800)......the list just goes on and you might end up paying more than 80K for the car (incidentally, the Mondeo is at $81K). Shockingly, some of these additional things such as a arm rest are standard features in Megane II.

On top of that, my mother, wife and myself found how uncomfortable the focus back seats are. The seats seems to force the passengers to sit in totally upright position. I am no doctor, but any fool can tell you that this will cause back ache for our senior citizens like my dad and mum and in-laws.

Really, I like the ESP thingy, but I don't chuck my car around corners at 100km/h every day just to prove that my car traction control/road holding is better than someone else's car. Ditto for the Focus.

Well, my family loved the Megane II, in particular:

1) My mum has acute arthritis in her fingers, and the light steering feel of the Megane has been very kind on her fingers - Amen!

2) All my family members love the auto-lights and wipers - no need to fiddle around with the controls

3) Big boot space - what can I say, when you have family > 5, it comes in handy.

4) Door shades - useful and practical for back passengers

5) My wife and mum loves the ignitionless key card, at least they don't get to over-crank the car.

6) Safety features - e.g when you emergency brake, the hazard lights come on automatically..strong build, can withstand heavy impact

7) Space space space....

8) Servicing interval at 20,000 km

I have driven the car for few months now, so far no problems, no regrets. Although the acceleration is a bit slow, but I am not the type that goes head-head racing in the streets, that would be playing russian roulette with my family members' lives.

That said, I am not running down other cars. [angel] It's really boils down to personal choices. I made my choice.

The renault car forum is filled with so many megane complaints, it's scary!!! The acriest part is that they all complain about similar things! Sounds like QC problems to me. ANd the servicing is really ex man!

i find that the Nissan Latio has a more comfortable & better looking interior than the Megane...

oh please! [crazy] even though, the latio is built on the "same platform" as the megane, no way you can say that it's more comfortable and better looking inside!! unless of course you're a lover of all things plastic and flimsy [hur]

anyway, this thread is about the Focus and the Megane, so leave the Nissans out of it!!

Yap, Latio is actually based on Clio's chasis not Megane.

Also put Latio and M2 on NSH, result will prove itself. Note that

Latio has much body roll as compared to M2.

Latio is not even near M2, interms of looks and Technology

i remebering reading an official RENAULT article that LATIO is never CLIO but MODUS.

can't find it though. maybe someone else can find it? [laugh]

MARCH should not be a CLIO either.

just compare their wheelbase and track length.

i never trust singapore magazine content. [sweatdrop]

no offence to the editor but they tend to anyhow humtum information...same goes to some HK car magazine. [dizzy]

hmm... to note

this statement 'How this car is built on the Renault Clio platform is harder to fathom, though.' means how this car is build on CLIO platform is hard to understand.

IMO, i think they donno what platform LATIO is using and guessing how come LATIO can be built on a CLIO. at that time they haven't heard of MODUS because LATIO came out earlier than MODUS. However MODUS is not on sale in Singapore.

BUT...there is 1 registered in Singapore...seen at Renault Training Centre opp Comfort Driving School at UBI.

Silver if i can remember properly...

for those who never heard of MODUS (http://www.renault.com/gb/produits/modus.htm)
