This is a follow-up to the It's Magic (produced in 2006) album I have recommended some time ago...

I stumbled upon two more of Eddie Higgins's album while at PS's Music Junction. I was surprised these other two albums were available at MJ, MJ never impress upon me that they carry imports like Eddie Higgins until I saw it.

The other two are by Eddie Higgins as well but expressed thru Trio rather than Quintet. Well, quintet meaning five instruments (piano, tenor sax, clarinet, bass and drums). One is Eddie Higgins's Standard Higgins while the other is Ballad Higgins (both produced in year 2005). There are a lot more album out there, like Eddie's Jazz Mozart but these three that I have, are the prefered ones.

There are many reasons why I particularly like Eddie's expression of jazz, most important of all, the albums are strictly recorded in New York and post mastering done in Japan's Venus Records. I also particularly like the cover design that comes with his every album, unique and retro.

I bought both for $35.90 each at PS's MJ. Hope you will enjoy it as well. If you must choose between the three, I think the It's Magic should come first.

Have always wanted to recommend this album to you. Essentially a chamber-music type of classical and modern works by a guitar and cello, much like a recital in the studio...

The tracks in the album exhibits warmthness in a cold winter. The guitar added that magical touch to a soulful cello, this combination is a first for me, who has been skeptical over how a guitar can be blended so nicely with the cello. This album has provided me with a much needed setting for some self-reflection over time. Made wholly in Germany, the recording has moved away from a typical over-engineered effect, not too clinical, not too rough.

What you should hear from this album, is the presence of the guitar and the sexy cello in a room. I suppose your audio's mid bass and mid range will be put into a real test giving the common sonic characteristic the two instruments have. Pay emphasis to the separation of the two instruments.

Highly recommended to be enjoyed at home on a lazy couch.

Robert wolf, the guitarist of Quadro Nuevo, together-did with the virtuosen Cellistin Fany Kammerlander to a chamber-musical duo: they draw almost boundless sound variety from their instruments - times sensitive floating melodies play, then again with tension-loaded and tendencyful passages with. "FARO" offers both self-compositions of the guitarist and interpretations of works as large star as Chick Corea and Sting.

Each of us has test or demo CDs that we prefer to use over the others whenever we come to assessing or auditing audio system both at home and in car audio. Most of us should be very familiar with demo CDs from Focal No.3, Chesky

Argh...finally found the original version of this Ruben Gonzalez's CD, it took me one year to find it. Guess not much left in the market, I am sorry...but you may have my CDR version should you want it.wink.gif

Was first introduced by Ben Chan who has generously lent me for listening and for subsequent reviews but this review has came one year later...I am terribly sorry Ben. blush.gif

OK, what I have got here is an album made 10 years ago in 1997 (yes, last century). Filled with Cuban tradition if I may describe it, with Ruben on the piano, accompanied by his own selection of musicians doing bass, trumpet, timbales, congos, cowbell, and three other men as chorus vocals...

Total of 9 tracks on this album which even my spouse said is smoothing and nicey...great to listen to while driving over a lazy Sunday, especially along East Coast Park...nod.gif

There are still a number of cds which Ruben Gonzalez is involved, like Buena Vista Social Club and Afro Cuban All Stars

Yes, you are right..."Introducing Ruben Gonzalez" is my favourite. He was introduced to Buena Vista Club after he had retired and appeared as guest.

The rest equally nice, as long as Ruben is in it, his hands on the piano is simply magical, makes the panio seems alive

Hmm, any members that have seen this review should feel safe to reach out for Ruben's collection. You have the "approval" already...Approvel, correct?

Neutral Newbie

I'm currently listening to 'Essential Michael Jackson'

Its a 2 disc compilation of some of his greatest works from Jackson 5 to recent years.

Not only does it bring back memories but the recording/ mastering was also well done.

Listening to 'Man in the Mirror' on a well setup system is simply incredible.
