Jagash Neutral Newbie January 28, 2003 Share January 28, 2003 Its your word against his. The Police does not know whether you have a personal grudge against the driver of the cement mixer right? Unless you are willing to testify, there can be no case. Cheers! ↡ Advertisement
Lillight Neutral Newbie January 28, 2003 Share January 28, 2003 I wonder whether Singapore has such a thing as "civilian arrest"... seem to remember hearing about it in other countries where regular citizens can "arrest" others. As a way to improve enforcement since the police can't be everywhere at once... anyone recall this?
Ikokchan Neutral Newbie January 28, 2003 Share January 28, 2003 Driving is a frustrating experience. I had, and I think most have, so many close encounters with taxi (their cab is their living tool but the way they drive, I think they want to retire early -- of course not all taxis drivers lah), big big trucks (they twist and turn like nobody's business just because they are BIG and well-protected. Now, I just try to leave much earlier and have some time to waste giving way to them (am I a coward? I just love my car so much, saving for so many many years to have one). BTW, anyone knows the number to call to reflect/complain the taxis driver who drives recklessly? I think Talking Point once mentioned the public can call in to some taxis company to complain (Of course, dun misuse the system and anyhow complain, please. Jagash Neutral Newbie January 28, 2003 Share January 28, 2003 Ya there is. There are some offences that the police considers as sizeable (robbery, theft, murder etc) and others that they consider it as non seizable (domestic quarrel, littering, traffic offences). For example, if a person committed a robbery and you caught the person and handed him over to the Police, they would file a charge based on your evidence. On the other hand, traffic offences are generally summon cases and not as serious. So you do not go and arrest the person like in your case. Even when the person uses a handphone in front of the police, they will just seize his handphone and issue him with a summon; they do not arrest him. Its different, if it is a hit and run case involving injured parties or death. Cheers!

Cool Neutral Newbie January 28, 2003 Share January 28, 2003 I dashed thru many red lights on one night at 4am when my son had to go to hospital. I drove like a mad man till the police stopped me and guided me at 140km all the way to the hospital. I think what Paul is saying... be forgiving, you won't know the reason as you are not at his position.
Smiley Neutral Newbie January 28, 2003 Share January 28, 2003 you should ask fr the tp offier's name, his boss name and his boss' boss' name. this ensure he wl entertain yr case and gets the truck driver in court. nowadays, more and more people not using their hands free set, esp those middle age men in merc. such action endangers the lives of other road uses, but tp keep one eye close. instead, they look out fr people not using seat belts.
