Ravinged 5th Gear December 17, 2005 Share December 17, 2005 Hi folks, An EG6 has a serious problem with the broken cam shafts, which leads to some other problems. It was initially quoted a whopping 2k+ to 3k to fix it up. Anyone has any recommendations where to get a re-conditioned EG6 DOHC engine? (I think the quote is a little ridiculous, and changing the engine is a much better choice as majority of the engine swop I have seen comes at a price tag much lower than that.) Thanks, Ed ↡ Advertisement

BlueSi Neutral Newbie December 27, 2005 Share December 27, 2005 H22 is too big for an EG. If you drop it in, you'll need custom engine mounts, electric radiator fan, remove AC, power steering, cruise control? Either way its too heavy to put into an EG. If you do decide to go with that, the weight distribution of your EG will be so offset that it'll be good for only drag racing, not track. Just wondering, how did the cams broke? Did they break while driving? If so that will mean bent valves, maybe cracked pistons too. You'll need to open up your block to be sure what the damages are. If they are just the cams, you can get replacement cams and replace them urself. Just get a copy of the service manual for your car and follow the steps. That'll save alot on labor. If the engine is totalled, drop in a B16B, B18C or the previously suggested B16 top and B18 bottom end, thats a good choice.

Turbonetics 2nd Gear December 27, 2005 Share December 27, 2005 how abt a B20B with B16 head??? btw,are u from oversea or singapore??? seems like u r driving a civic....
BlueSi Neutral Newbie December 27, 2005 Share December 27, 2005 I'm overseas. And yeah, I drive a 00 Civic Si B20 bottom end and B16? It'll give you loads of torque, but the B20 wont wanna rev as much as the B16 head. The B16 head wants to rev, should be match with a bottom end that's equally capable of reving. I'm sure it's been done b4, but how good is the match, I dont know yet. The B16 and B18 is the simplest swap since both parts match up perfectly. Its as easy as it gets when it comes to motor swap, not counting swaping in the exact same motor.
