Change timing belt

300 only for all the belts? Does that include the workmanship? I just called a shop to get a quote on servicing my 2000 forester at the 80k mark and he says that I need to change my timing belt too. All in all, 600 to 900 bucks ! [hur]

Anybody knows what needs to be done at the 80k and 90k mark?

thanks

Wow. $600-$900 for timing belt change?

Even that is a difference of $300 from the least to the most ex. The WS sud b able to give u a more accurate quote.

Do u know this WS well? If not, look for another one.

My car is a jop 1.6 lit twin-cam 16 valve engine but has only 1 timing belt. I'm not sure if yours has 1 or 2.

Check with a few other WS's to get a better picture of the charges.

If you got the high quote from the agent or 1 of those big WS, then maybe their charges r much higher but not necessarily better job done.

For me. $300 plus is for timing belt, water pump, tensioner, bearing and the other belts.

Bro,

It costs about $700 to $800 when I asked at BKS. It includes the water pump + belts.

If what you've mentioned covers majjor servicing, then I suppose it might include some or all of the following: engine oil, ATF, spark plugs, front & rear diff oil, air filter, fuel filter, brake fluid, steering fluid, coolant change etc which is considered cheap..... This level of major servicing itself cost me some $400 or so already.

almak... too late. Got scared by a story of someone having their timing belt snapped at teh 80k mark. So i thought i had better go get it done soon. Anyway, for your info I did it at BMS and it cost me 850 for the timing belt and water pump with coolant change. Another 110 for oil change with oil filter

where is BMK auto? Are they good too?

Thanks

Depending on your car. average price for TBelt, Tensioner Pulley & Tensioner, normal v fan belts should be around $300 for Jap Car, Conti whould be between 450-700. Especially with the ribbed serpentine fan belts.

Good idea to consider 80K change, as in our city traffice the total engine hour will be longer than highwaty 80K travel hours. And these rubber belts tend to degenerate badly from heat and weather.

aiyoh..... if you know BMS.... then BKS you should know too mah..... the 2 bosses were previously partners. Both are pro Subaru workshops.

Personally, I find that BMS is slightly on the more expensive side. [sweatdrop]

Hi

Is timing belt the same term as toothed belt? Cos my car manual only mentioned the term toothed belt, and they recommend changing it at 180,000km for petrol engine and 90,000km for diesel engine. Anyone car to comment? THks. Me driving a Skoda.

different brand got different servicing schedules for the parts. mine is 100,000km

Best to refer to owner's manual... it should be stated there [:)]

Any bros here can advise me, how many thgs (the most common like engine belt, air con coil etc) I've gotta chg/replace when a 1.6A Jap saloon hit 80km? How much to budget then enuf? [dizzy] I've yet to chg anythg accept tyres & batt apart from the religious 10k servicing regime [rolleyes]

Thnx!

Normally 80K servicing for Jap saloon, you should change the following:-

1) Power Steering Belt

2) Fan Belt

3) Timing Belt (If chain then no need to change)

4) Water Pump Assy

5) Brake Pads (Check & see if it is necessary)

6) Fuel filter

7) Air Filter (If it is stock one [:p] )

8) All fluids i.e Brake, power steering, coolant, ATF/MT

9) Other general items i.e Engine oil change, oil filter, spark plugs ...etc

For japanese rides, normally 40K, 80K, 120K, 160K ... etc is the most siong on the pocket [sweatdrop]

Note: The above is jus a general guideline [;)]

Alternator and the rest can wait until kapok liao then change [;)] Price for the parts should be 200-300+ i think depending on different makes & models [:p] IMHO, for beltings & brake pads it's best to get the original genuine ones instead of compatiable ones [nod] It's the labour cost that is Ex to replace these parts [sweatdrop] Take note of your battery too since ride coming to 5 years if you have never change it before [;)]

Cant imagine the more expensive item - the labour....... [dizzy][dead]

hmm..... must RE-DO my sums if wanna keep the car...... I wonder if $2k is enuf to get all nec parts chged WITH labour? I've chged my batt 2yrs ago.

Thnx!
