I have a problem starting my Fabia after I switch off the engine to i.e pump petrol or air into my tyres or wait for someone in a carpark. Thought it was the battery problem but sent it to my mech & he says it's the temperature sensor(?). So, if I want to start it again, I have to step on the accelerator repeatedly while turning the key for some time before it can start again (even my friend doesn't have to do that with his 9 year old Mitsubishi). Super7 Turbocharged February 18, 2003 Share February 18, 2003 (edited) Hi Tea3, As your car is brand new, i feel it could just be some minor things which cause this starting problem. Please bring it back to the agent and ask them fix it under the warranty. This will also prevent them from saying later that the car has been 'touched' by outside workshop and therefore they dun want to be responsible for the problem. btw, for all we know, the battery, though supposed to be new, may be too weak..... or some loose wire connections which reduce current flow etc therefore making it hard to start..... simple things but can cause big inconveniences.......... Tea3 Neutral Newbie February 18, 2003 Author Share February 18, 2003 Well, my car isn't brand new. It's second hand & I bought it 3 weeks ago. Dealer told me it's one year old but when I received statement from loan company, it stated there "Manufactured year: 2000". That's beside the point. Went to Czech Auto & they said the car is no longer under warranty. Just sent it for servicing last week & my mech has ordered a new sensor. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Jagash Neutral Newbie February 18, 2003 Share February 18, 2003 Does your car fan continue to work after you switch off the car engine. Some European models have this concept and if so, this could be the reason for not being able to start your car bcos the fan is drawing electricity from the battery but the battery is not re-charging since the car if turn off. If that is the case, just ask mechanic to disconnect the wire for this function and problem solve, liaw! Tea3 Neutral Newbie February 18, 2003 Author Share February 18, 2003 Nope, everything in the car stops working when I turn off the engine...except the driver . Well, I find it can start once the engine is cool & yeah, 30 minutes after it is turned off. 2 weeks ago, I went to Czech Auto to buy some accesories for my car & was there for 15 minutes. My car was parked in the hot sun (parking lots along Queenstown bad for cars - no shade) & I had so much problem starting the car thereafter. Jagash Neutral Newbie February 18, 2003 Share February 18, 2003 BTW, what sensor is your mechanic ordering for you?? Have not come across any car that has a sensor that will not allow you to start your car when it is warm. Also you should not keep stepping on the accelerator when you crank the car to start. If it's a battery problem, you won't be able to crank for too long. Have you tested the alternator & battery? Temperature sensor?? at the air-flow meter?? or cooling system?? He said some temperature sensor was spoilt & because of that, there was too much petrol in the engine. Therefore, I needed to step on the accelerator to pump the petrol before I can start the car. I am sure he would have if something was wrong with them. Battery is old too but he said nothing was wrong with it. He didn't tell me which temperature sensor was spoilt. Could it also be a problem with the starter?
