saw the papers today, they were talking about how it has turned from an ugly duckling to a swan. which do you prefer... for me, i'd like the sylphy more but, i still have doubts on its FC. heard the FC for Sylphy is lower than usual. the honda civic is always a great car, but, i think its too low..

just did a test drive on 2 litre model. think it uses the Lafesta engine. i'm surprised at the excellent mid-range pickup for a CVT trans. the car is extremely smooth and quiet like Lexus. but the bonus has to be the space management. what a whopping amount of legspace, the cabin and features and very well-appointed. plus my whole arm can go into the cavernous glove box. unbelievable. but from outside doesn't look too big, dunno how Nissan could find so much space inside. also test drove the Honda Civic in same price range, lovely engine, more sporty but interior less space & not as refined as Slyphy.

To say that the interior of Sylphy is more refine than Civic must be an over-statement! Refine, NO; spacious, YES!

Old or new Megane platform? I'd be very surprised if the old one was flexible enough to take the major modifications needed, plus it makes no business sense when the tooling for the current one is all in place already.

Sorry for the confusion caused. What I meant was the current Megane platform. Renault will soon replace the current model just as they've done with the Clio. Regards.

I think the Megane still has some life in it yet. It was launched in 2002, and with an average life span of six years, that means it has another two years before any change. Certainly not a spring chicken, but nowhere near obsolete yet. See how little they've fiddled with the design despite it being gour years old...

Each to his own [thumbsup] A car to me is a car, as long it is a Jap car [laugh] I have drove a R32 and now I am driving a Cefiro. To me high tech or not, hi FC or not does not matter to me anymore. I want luxury, handling and comfort now that I have a family. [nod].

I do not think 133hp is something to wow about. But I do totally agree with you that it does not matter much between 133hp and 180hp or 230hp. Our 'legal' speed limit only 90km/h on e'press ways. and if not on e'press way, on normal roads, it would be: stop, go stop again within a short stretch of 200m road [sweatdrop]

Have to disagree with you about no need for power for S'pore roads. I drove Sunny for 5 yrs, and the Teg with it's much more balanced power/weight ratio is like a breath of fresh air when driving - even in stop/go traffic, and very much so along the likes of TPE during off peak.

The Sylphy does have some nice tech touches, like the usual Nissan/Renault's keyless, but not much else tech wise over the FD. But overall interior wise, they cater to very different tastes - one's high tech and sporty (FD), the other more relaxed and luxurious (mini Cefiro like).

For me, high tech in car = engine, transmission and handling, not keyless entry [;)]

yes, fully agree, to each his own.

Some people go for performance

some go for economy

some go for uniqueness

some go for ugliness

These people have made their choice/choices

some people wud think rear drum brakes are ok, the drums still serve

their purpose of stopping the car

at the end of the day if a consumer dun like it, then dun buy. Life is simple

Civic. Period. [rolleyes]

Unless Nissan drop the Sylphy name and the bulging yet teary headlamps!

Nissan will not drop the Sylphy name cos it has already drop the frontal name before the Sylphy.

Original name for Nissan Sylphy is Nissan BlueBird Sylphy in Japan.

Just came back from a trip to Japan, for your info, Nissan Cefiro and Sylphy are used as taxi in Japan besides Toyota Crown. [laugh]

Original name for Nissan Cefiro is Nissan Teana in Japan.

Anyway, Sylphy is a downgraded version of Cefiro so if want to get Sylphy, get the Cefiro for better features and original.

Seems like Nissan going the same track as Honda...

Downgrade their 2.0 L cefiro and get a 2 L Sylphy...

Downgrade a 2 l Honda Accord and get a 2 L Civic?

I know buyers dun think that way, but the positioning of their cars in our market seems that way...

Agree so and seems all following Toyota's path.

Toyota :

Bigger brother, Camry -> Smaller brother, Altis -> Smallest brother -> Vios

All shape of the car are similar in design.

Nissan :

Bigger brother, Cefiro -> Smaller brother, Sylphy -> Smallest brother -> Latio

dun tink the Sylphy is comparable to the Altis la bro...perhaps Sunny might fit in the place.

Nissan Sylphy 2.0L test-drive notes:

Test drove the Slyphy 2.0L model. Very refined and quiet i.e. almost like a Lexus. Extronic CVT is ultra smooth with no detectable shifts. The engine does'nt rev up to the shifting point like a conventional auto-trans would. I believe the acceleration is quite reasonable as it has the same 10.7 sec for 0-100 km/h figures as the Cefiro 230JM (V6 engine). It uses a newer aluminium MR20DE engine that is also used in the Nissan Lafesta MPV. Suspension absorbs road bumps quite well. However, the factory fitted alloy wheels uses 195/60 R16 tyre size which is not available in S'pore at the moment. Really large rear leg room comparable to that in a BMW 7-series / Mercedes S-class. Very comfortable seats in both front and rear. Quite a good car provided you don't mind the rear drum brakes and lack of 3-point rear centre seat belt. Comes with features like auto-air-con with recirculate in smoky environment detection system, plasmacluster ion air-con, GPS nav system, rear reversing LCD and reverse sensors, auto-wipers, auto-lights, electric driver's seat, keyless access system with immobilizer etc. Quite an impressive car indeed! It may suit some ppl better than a Honda Civic 2.0 Si.
