Firstcall Clutched April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 oh my did he said that? hmm... perhaps trying to sound diplomatic, (ads money at atake?). 133bhp is really old school and old timer standards. absolute shame. drum brakes for 2.0l is either utter insult to buyer's intelligence or willful preying on buyer's ignorance. ↡ Advertisement
Sturtles 6th Gear April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 The type of brake used depends largely on the power of the car, and the purpose it is built for... so obviously, the 2L slyphy is designed to be a comfort pt A to B car, and not for tracking at PG, or traffic light races.. The engine still suck... why not use the 2L ceferio engine?.... Maybe it eats too much petrol....
Mt88 1st Gear April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 Civic. Period. Unless Nissan drop the Sylphy name and the bulging yet teary headlamps! Change name to Syphilis?
Vit4wd 1st Gear April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 S$74K can get you a 2l Hyundai Sonota, or if you must have Toyota, S$66K for the Altis 1.8A (Celica engine).
Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 Civic - better engine with better power output, more up to date design and probably (have not tested Nissan's) better handling. 133bhp for 2L.... the mind boggles... what era's that engine again? Also, never liked CVT. Civic's auto has sportsshift with paddles, and if it shifts close to my Teg GSR, it's a winner over CVT for sure.
Normal_aspirated Clutched April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 my guess..........Civic is the overall winner of this battle.
Odyssey02 Clutched April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 The rear looks out of proportion and the engine is seriously underpowered for a 2000cc engine and that life motoring section actually claimed that it is enough power.
Dennisk Clutched April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 FC for 2.0 L civic is <8km/l, that's what my friend get...
Zakuii 1st Gear April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 I'd say your friend does not know how to drive a car! My 2L stream can give me 12km/l avg. I do not think Civic 2L can be worse than mine.
Koolaba 1st Gear April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 Hidid u say 83K for de Sylhilis?.oops..sori...typo. IF its 83K..I wud go straight for a manual FD Civic.. FC low or not...bekoz de Nissan CVT sucks... Heck.i might throw in a little more n go for a REX or Skoda Superb..which is arnd tat price range..and I don't think Syphy is anymore high tech than de Civic. I know FC is important but sumtimes nothing beats a good driving pleasure... 83K for that?!! what is TanCHong thinking?.. The Sylphy 2.0L is definitely underpowered and it was proven by a test drive. It really surprises me to know that the rear brakes are still drums. Albeit the Sylphy presents a very executive look, there are some areas which cost cutting measures are evident. In comparison to the N16 Sunny, the Sylphy has the following cost cutting measures: - 2 piece moulded door panels. - hard plastic finishing on the upper section of the dashboard. Quantum 5th Gear April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 Your friend one is manual or auto , I am very sure 2.0L manual civic can achive 12km/l

Yep! U can read his writeup in ST...n I almost burst out laughin when the writer compare n said de Sylphy CVT is as good as Audi's Multitronic!! ...wah piang.. Realli...for that kind of price tag range..there are many worthwhile contenders around that I am willin to part my hard earned $$ with w/o feelin insulted. e.g Sonata, Camry, Civic, Mark X , SKODA SUPERB, REX, Mazda 6,.. psstt...de REX comes with BREMBO..not drums.. haha... Genie47 1st Gear April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 (edited) Its going to hot up even more in the >2.0L department. Chevrolet is bringing in the Epica. Its an IL6 engine. Imagine the smoothness. FC of course will be a killer though. Hope they pack so many things in it like the US version. My thoughts are on the engine. I have never heard of any GM IL6 engine at 2.0L and 2.5L. Could be new which also points out to maybe reliability. Edited April 8, 2006 by Genie47
Mikosan Neutral Newbie April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 Hi, my Civic 2.0l gave me >8km/l when new. After the first 1000km, it went up to 9. By the time I hit 3000 - 5000km (mileage), shd be getting at least 9km/litre. All new cars suffer from poor FC. All new cars need to run in first. When I first heard abt the Sylphy I thought I could get my son to book one. Then I read about the 133bph and the rear drums (on a 2-litre) - gosh, this car belongs to the museum. Hustler Neutral Newbie April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 I will go for Sylphy. Reasons: 1.Since im already paying so high for a car. I'll go for a higher technology(Intelli key, memory seat,GPS, side mirror tilts down when reversing!! etc) 2.Bigger leg room. I have long legs. 3.Bigger boot. 4.Regarding drum brakes/low hp, how fast can u speed in SG?? with so many colourful WRX at RoadSH. Here Jam..there jam.. IMO, this 2 cars are of different category. 1 for performance. 1 for luxury. Not really justifiable to lump em together If you want something in between, go for Accord JDM! Cheaper, looks luxurious, sportacious, performacious
Quantum 5th Gear April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 (edited) honestly say, 133bph on a 2-litre engine is a bit low, but Sylphy weight only 1235kg, power/weight shd be decent , and luxurious interior, no manual version, rear drum brake, top speed only 180km/h(speedometer) , its not belongs to motor enthusiasts , it target to mid- class professional Edited April 8, 2006 by Quantum
Ldawn88 2nd Gear April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 I do not think 133hp is something to wow about. But I do totally agree with you that it does not matter much between 133hp and 180hp or 230hp. Our 'legal' speed limit only 90km/h on e'press ways. and if not on e'press way, on normal roads, it would be: stop, go stop again within a short stretch of 200m road
Kelpie 2nd Gear April 8, 2006 Share April 8, 2006 Sylphy rear is butt-ugly man. I'll take Civic anyday. 1. Ya lor, isn't it clear that FD is an obvious winner? 2. Remember an earlier thread of Latio sports comparing with ES5, the winner was also ES5. 3. IMHO, Nissan likes to emphasize on interior, which is a cheaper bet than to compete face to face on engine and performance. This is especially so for their mid to low end offerings.
