HANKOOK RS-2

I don't know really. I didn't ask them. I think the RS2s are the highest range for road tyres, beyond that, I think its semi-slicks for racing.

If the price is the same between RS2 and AD07, I'd go for RS2. wet weather safety, I think, is better than AD07. I've tried both btw.

ad07 wet is [shakehead][shakehead][shakehead]

evertime in rain, i drive 60 or slower...

got 1 time at 80 the thing aquaplane,,scare the sh*t out of me

Ouch... I know that the AD07 is not that good, but I didn't know it was that bad. Still, dry handling for AD07 is top notch!

I've done 160 in the rain along NSH, it is stable and gives reasonable feedback. recently did an e-brake due to a taxi (AGAIN) cutting into the lane of the car infront of me at the temporary bend along ECP just outside Victoria JC. Tires chipped abit but I held my line well, and safe from the car in front of me. Its been almost 20,000 and its holding out well.

Heard a rumour that the rubber compound changes big time with heat and traction is affected. Any truth in this rumour guys?

I been on RS-2 for almost 1K mileage,

I noticed that the tires tends to be

soft and sticky on the side wall

after every journey ( about 20km of drive ).

Is it due to the Silica compound?

Also, there is those brand new tire smell

coming from the tires even after 1k clocked

on these tires.

Overall, a great tire.

My R-S2 is about 10k. I just came back from Malaysia. Still able to chiong at 140km/h in pouring rain with confidence, only thing can't see too far ahead. [laugh]

Yeap, I got the same effect. I think its the Semi - semi-slick (quarter slick?) compound that holds the car down to the ground after its been warmed up. I don't think its a problem.. its the way its made.

Only thing is the noise, its got thumping sounds.... very irritating on a nice quiet nite..

Seriously R-S2 is prob the best balanced tyre avail now with great dry & wet grip and fantastic price to beat. [thumbsup] Beats many Jap & EU brands

I can't agree more especially on the price/performance level. R-S2 costs slightly less than the Michelin Preceda I replaced and the Preceda is not at this performance level. Bridgestone and Michelin may have arguably the best tyres, but they can cost up to 50% more...based on brand name alone.

i've been on RS2 for close to 10,000km already and i haven't really noticed this sticky sidewall issue.

anyhow, here's my promised review of the tires:

given its price range, it offers phenomenal performance. dry grip is more than adequate for daily driving and it holds up well on track too. previous tires i've been on include bridgestone gr80, goodyear gs-d3 and bridgestone re-050a.

took the RS2 to sepang around the 4000km mark and they helped me shave an incredible 7secs off my previous best lap time(learning curve not withstanding). had other mods like BBK, air filter and exhaust too but i'm sure the brakes and the tires made the biggest difference. my traction control came on less often than when i tracked with the goodyears or re-050a and the car felt more stable in the high speed sweeping curves. i spun out thrice on previous track days, once on the re-050a and twice on the goodyears. i'm proud to report that no such thing happened with the RS2. wear rate after the track day was comparable to the goodyear eagles.

wet driving is a little less inspiring than either the goodyears or bridgestone re-050a but i can live with it, given the price i paid. they performed better than the gr-80s in the wet though.

one issue i had was a loss in tire pressure on two occasions. on both occasions, a check with a tire pressure gauge didn't reveal a loss in pressure for any of the tires so i'm pretty sure its due to my sensors rather than the tires themselves. problem hasn't recurred since.

if you haven't already figured it out by now, i have a nasty habit of trying out different tires and have yet to re-purchase a particular model once i've worn them out or got tired of them(cycled throught 4 sets of tires in 1.5yr) but with the RS2, i might just make an exception... and i think that's the biggest endorsement i can give to the hankook RS2.

cheers
