Panda Neutral Newbie May 15, 2006 Share May 15, 2006 Based on a review i saw, the handling for this new car is practically the same as the 2nd Gen Mx5. Reason being, the 2nd gen mx5 is pretty much what a roadster should be and their theory is, " Don't fix if it ain't broken " So the only changes are a new engine and some weight saving materials for the new heavier engine. Of coz, internally, the cabin looks nicer... 10 kg more than the NB, you get better power and torque, a very much stiffer chassis, the same great single hand operated roof. A simple fuss-free roadster built to be enjoyed for a long time. The car was designed delibrately to not produce anymore road holding than the NB, beyond which, the fun-factor from a light-weight FR roadster would be lost. As for why we will never see many MX-5s on the road, the same reason why we'll never see many of ANY roadster on the road, its just not exactly practical to own a soft-top in Singapore. ↡ Advertisement

Actually the chassis was redesigned ground up with a different suspension setup at the rear in addition to the engine. With the exception of the name, and front suspension it is a very different car from the NB

Elfenstar 3rd Gear May 15, 2006 Share May 15, 2006 I wasnt actually trying to prove you wrong. what i was trying to do was to get you to justify what you said. Just coz its won awards doesnt mean its a good car.
Oneshot1kill Neutral Newbie May 15, 2006 Share May 15, 2006 (edited) Its just my personal view. I just don't like the MX. It looks so mundane. I prefer the MRS, which looks much more fun. Convertibles are all about fun. Although overall the mx5 maybe better ? Mazda cars only look good on brouchures. Elfenstar 3rd Gear May 15, 2006 Share May 15, 2006 If you want v.good handling (and performance) out of the box then the MX5 is the way to go. If you like modding the MRS will kill the MX5 in the handling stakes and slightly edge it out in the power bits. The MRS will kill all other cars in the same price range if the suspension and handling bits are modded properly.

Knighthunter 4th Gear May 16, 2006 Share May 16, 2006 care to justify y don't @@ much on the road ? MX5 is priced 110k new and only seats 2 person. Not cup of tea for majority for medium/small sedan buyer.
Miketow Neutral Newbie May 16, 2006 Share May 16, 2006 How is it strange to see only a few MX5 on SG roads? SG men are real practical creatures and will frown at anything that has less then 4 doors or less then enough boot space to carry baby pram, groceries from Giant, golf bags, 12 inch woofer. YellowFlash Clutched May 16, 2006 Share May 16, 2006 i agree, too impractical to buy for most people. only real enthusiast or people with extra $$ will want to buy.
Chenqien Neutral Newbie May 16, 2006 Author Share May 16, 2006 (edited) hmm.. let me justify myself... by few i mean in rarity.. cos this is supposedly a good car.. so wld expect more pple to buy.. but up to date i only see 1... and heck i even see more 2nd gen mx-5, SLKs and 3,6 series and Z4 cabriolets so in other words i expect to see it more in abundance.. but not really mainstream and populating the streets... YellowFlash Clutched May 16, 2006 Share May 16, 2006 the reason is because mercedes and bmw are continental. singaporeans buy brand one.

Chenqien Neutral Newbie May 16, 2006 Author Share May 16, 2006 but mx-5 could be considered a cheaper alternative mah.. still sexy enough to turn heads.. at most take out tt mazda logo loh
Mysteria Neutral Newbie May 16, 2006 Share May 16, 2006 hmm.. new mx5 looks nicer than the old version i feel great handling too, seat on my friend's ride... contrastly, the MRS is a mid engine .. very high mantainace, handling wise, stock to stock , the MX5 is better. well every car has its pro and cons.. doesn't mean u seen it LESS on the road, that means it SUX, very very vague statement, it doesn't mean proton is a damn gd car as its seen everywhere in malaysia.. just as altis or vios in singapore. These are called economical car.. reason y u dun see many mx5 on the road, coz its only for pple who are w/o their own family, or just a couple, and they have a few more dough to spare Get that car.. u'll not regret it.. have heard many testimonies already.. YellowFlash Clutched May 16, 2006 Share May 16, 2006 but with 110k....most would simply either add in another 10k for a brand new Evo, or probably get a STI and still got left over. other than the roadster feeling from the mx5, lesser on road as well. the evos and sti are far superior in power, handling and value for $$$ compared to mx5. both evo and sti have 4 ddoors, bigger boot space. ↡ Advertisement
