Yttrium Neutral Newbie March 5, 2003 Share March 5, 2003 Yah lah.. initially couldn't see the BMW5 series look in the new headlamps mah... I find the stock ones look smarter... but if you like the transparent look then the new ones are OK. Can't see the carbon fibre altho I'm a sucker for that too... ↡ Advertisement
Koolaba 1st Gear March 5, 2003 Share March 5, 2003 Maybe u can ask a reputable spray painter to spray the required parts in the headlamp reflector black, while leaving a small rim to emulate e chrome rim. I've seen Lancer Club ppl do it on their Cedia Lancers. The result is but i dunno whether the paint can last the heat if the headlamp is switched on for prolonged periods. Definitely cheaper

Soya Supersonic March 5, 2003 Share March 5, 2003 Go for it! Black bezel headlamps is the "in" look now. Dunno if the 156's light assembly is a sealed unit. If so, cannot DIY.
Saaber Neutral Newbie March 5, 2003 Share March 5, 2003 Even so, can still DIY....
Soya Supersonic March 5, 2003 Share March 5, 2003 U mean pry open the sealed unit? U may crack the light assembly or get water seepage later.

Vtim 3rd Gear March 6, 2003 Share March 6, 2003 The HID package would set you back ard S$1000 from the OEM. You can still put the normal Halogen light into the HID housing, which a lot of other cars in the market are doing. you can get after market HID kit, cost around $700, korean bulbs with Philip ballast. If H4 bulbs will loose high beam
Lokety Neutral Newbie September 5, 2003 Share September 5, 2003 How does the Korean bulbs compare with, say, Philips? Where can I find Korean kits in Singapore? Thanks.
Vtim 3rd Gear September 5, 2003 Share September 5, 2003 I've not use the Korean bulbs so I can't comment on that, didn't install HID on my car cause it's illegal You can find people selling at most of the car forums at Delphi forums, like SHC, SMC, CarTorque, HMCC, STC..etc Just post your question over there & someone will be able to tell you where to by & install. Madarmour Neutral Newbie September 5, 2003 Share September 5, 2003 Hi guys, I am contemplating to buy the new head light assembly for my 156 (from the GTA). the pair would cost me about S$500. Need you guys' opinion, to help me decide. here are the pics of my current lights and the GTA ones (comes with HID housing). Thanks a lot. Mike, Interested? Er......is it a normal halogen headlight assembly?
Madarmour Neutral Newbie September 5, 2003 Share September 5, 2003 So, you are looking for a "victim" to operate on... I support you... This will be a great project... Ed, I still have a ballast for HID but I don't know if it's working or not. Is there a way to find out? I might contemplate the new headlight if my old HID is still working. Need to get a new HID bulb though... Thanks. Mike.
Throttleb Neutral Newbie September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 Mike, does that include the blackened insides..or just the HID . if so, Im also game if that gets u a better deal. have been thinking about spaying the inside chrome reflectors few mths ago but the fact that it might fade has turned me off
Throttleb Neutral Newbie September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 ahhaha Replied to mikechong iniially as I thought it was him who posted. We can spray the inside chrome reflector black instead of replaing the housing, as you gotta open the whole assembly anyway. Problem is that you cant be sure whether the black spray paint will fade due to the heat. was considreing that for my 156 few mths ago. do you think you can get a better price if we get a couple of 156 guys to go in?
Madarmour Neutral Newbie September 9, 2003 Share September 9, 2003 The 156's headlight unit is sealed so it's difficult to spray the insides. With regards to the new headlight in question, you'd get more answers from Selespeed156 than from me. ↡ Advertisement
