Bentwy Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 like what you said - it's obvious when someone rebadges 'upwards' - so that get their just reward of being laughed at. issn't that enough. what's all this badging fuss about??? the badge is like the chassis/bodykit/rims. it's superficial. ↡ Advertisement

Ronnie Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 hmm.. put it in such a way, you buy an acer laptop, and stick on a sony VAIO emblem. Then walk around with your 'high end' brand. I don't know what it serves, but just enforcing the fact that the owner has an infeority complex and perhaps equipment envy.
Ronnie Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 If one day I kanna lottery, I will bodykit a Evo into a Lancer and change my rear disc brakes to drums..... Must kanna lottery cos got lots of stuff to hide....got to buy the Lancer GLXi emblem....hard to find in garage... thats too much work. just find some stock hubcaps for the wheels and use them to cover up your rear discs. does wonders. BMW320i Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 It has been unethical since the day you were born my friend. Welcome to Year 2006. For argument and mockery sake, if 99.9% of the world population agrees that terrorism is wrong, are you that 0.1% minority that agrees terrorism is right ? Zyrofillica 1st Gear July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 ya man. i rebadge my mitsu with the *evolution super quad turbo ZRX v12) emblem. Man am i ethical. I should be shot and placed in jail or fined like all the litterbugs or pple or cheat others out of their money by selling them pirated goods. Well, maybe i misread ur posts, but what im seeing here is tt u think its unethical (ie, in the same unethical class as selling fake brands? stealing someone's gf? not queing up to buy stuff type of unethical?) Well i guesss many pple have different views, and i bet there is a more balanced view of this rather than a 0.01 and 99% biased view that simply putting on an emblem to "lie" of the car's capabilities shd be considered unethical. yup. anyhow there are mixed views and maybe me and bent just belong to the other bochap grp hehe. cos i know ill smoke the fake WRXer with my evolution super quad turbo ZRX v12. And then i can laugh at the WRX wannabe. Anyway whether or not he puts an emblem and proceeds to smoke me or get smoked, there is no harm done so i dun really give a shiat kekeke
Bentwy Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 sure, you win. it's just a badge to me. to you it's an entirely different thing I guess. but too bad you don't own subaru - you could write in and ask them to register the WRX/STI as a trademark only to be used for certain models. And sue the wannabes all you want for their statistically and cosmetically justified lack of ethics. Cheers dude. No offense.
Zyrofillica 1st Gear July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 Maybe you belong to the category of people who purchase the inferior model and re-badge them to the superior model, which explains why you are so hostile towards such a move ? If it were brand pride I would've purchased another one. Or maybe get another BMW or maybe a F430 or maybe a Hyundai Getz. Doesn't matter what make or model you purchase so as long you, I re-emphasise, "REBADGE" them into a superior model, it is unethical. Also it makes a total mockery to themselves. Ever experienced TSes lined up beside you at the traffic light, rev their engine but yet smoked them long long time cause you could already tell it is a WRX from the rear ? or On the expressway when a TS roadhogging lane 1, when you overtake them, they tailgate you, as you drop gear and pull away they couldn't keep up BUT yet, tailgate you again when you slow down and even try to overtake back ? Its embarassing I tell you. Driving an inferior model and pretending to be superior is plain mockery to the owner. I don't stand to lose anything. I just hope these wannabes don't make a fool of themselves. Theres absolutely nothing wrong in dressing up the car to make it look like the superior model. Case Close oh. ok i reread ur post. its unethical to the owner. i mean, ok maybe unethical is used wrongly here. did u mean tt the owner cheats his own conscience or something like tt? cos ethical is used in a more social context where others in society actually suffer or have some form of hardship like maybe an external negative benefit. BMW320i Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 Whatever makes you happy. Let the statistics do the talking. If changing the emblem to the superior model was ethical, you would inadvertably be correct to say if you were a small time administrative staff working in a marketing dept, it would be ethical to brand your position or appointment as, "Marketing Manager" as opposed to "Administrative Staff" on your name card. So are you 1 of those people who tries very hard to be someone your not ? Thats devastatingly sad you know ? Neither me or the rest of the people suffers so me too don't give a sh*t. At the end of the day the drivers know deep down what their car is and it is their own doing that they brought shame and mockery upon themselves. On the other hand "We", not you, don't stand to lose. BMW320i Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 No I don't think I will. I'll rather name and shame these people. That way its much more entertaining for the society. Like for example this genius over here with a M3 badge when its a 318.
BMW320i Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 www.dictionary.com. I strongly recommend you use it. 1 entry found for unethical. unethical adj 1: not conforming to approved standards of social or professional behavior; "unethical business practices" [ant: ethical] 2: not adhering to ethical or moral principles; "base and unpatriotic motives"; "a base, degrading way of life"; "cheating is dishonorable"; "they considered colonialism immoral"; "unethical practices in handling public funds" [syn: base, dishonorable, dishonourable, immoral] I emphasise, "Moral Principles". Does one have any moral principles by deceiving the general public ? No.
W210k 1st Gear July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 (edited) Hey bro, chillax man! To begin with, yes I find it disgusting when people 'up-badge' their cars. But to call it unethical? I don't know. Perhaps unscrupulous will be a neater word? Switching subjects a little bit, to mellow the tension here. I have always had this problem. Say a 'WRX' comes by your side at the red light. How can you tell if its for real? Should I gun for it when the lights go green? What if it is a real WRX ... then the other driver will laugh his head out for me to even try! Cuckoo Or when you are behind a 'WRX' which is roadhogging on Lane 1. He has got all the correct 'signs' ... milo-can exhaust tip, high spoilers with brake lights, WRX or STI insignia, gold color alloy rims etc. Should I even try overtaking him on his left and hope that it is a TS-Rex? What if its the real McCoy - then so malu. I am sure many of us have come to such situations on the roads before. If you really come to know (or find out later) that it is really a TS in disguise, would you play with it? Tease the driver till he is damn embarassed? Or just let him be? What happens when you start playing with him and he becomes agressive (in driving) even though he is just a TS. Do you stop? Or continue to tease him even more and then scoot off? Qualifier: When I say play and tease, I assume 2 things: (1) On open / empty roads or expressways (2) You have a car with at least 150 BHP (or higher) to really 'bully' a TS-Rex Edited July 17, 2006 by W210k
Bentwy Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 using a wrong badge to show off = not adhering to ethical or moral principles. wow bro.. .you sure are hot about people who misuse badges.
Pwillie Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 I think "unethical" is too harsh a word to use here... My friend using a fake LV, which LV cherries on it leh... "Unethical" is more of sticking the WRX emblem & trying to sell the car to you as a real WRX, thats unethical. Using the WRX sticker for his own use is perfectly alright IMO, just that everyone else who knows will call him a d*ck
Kespher Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 Well I saw a lancer with an air scoop before, so nothing new.
Valor79 Neutral Newbie July 17, 2006 Share July 17, 2006 Aiyo u all make TS sound like such a lousy car... truth is it can smoke more than 50% of the SG road users out there especially at bends stock... so I assume the people all looking down on TS all have either AMGs or 350Z? Sad case like me, can afford STi easy but can only drive auto car so I buy TS & RX8 hehe but come year end when JDMs Auto Rexes hit MotorImage I'll switch hehehe... Anyway back to topic, it's ok to mod the looks of your cars cuz everyone does it, I mean come on everyone has done some form of cosmetics to their rides at one time or another right? However it's wrong to Re-Badge to make it a superior version. Just leave your ride with that mod up but plain no badge sleeper look. There are an increasing number of STis with dual turbos & FMIC with a scoopless TS bonnet & everything else looks stock...
