Any Lawsu can enlightened me.

 

As I understood is any vehicle which stop over night/stationary position for few hours require 30sec to 1 min to be kept engine idling. That should be enough to make sure engine oil will be distributed all part of engine to protect wear and tear. EVEN WITH OR WITHOUT ADBV valve.

 

After I read this post/?advertisement,I'm very confusing. [jawdrop] [jawdrop]Shall I need to change my engine oil filter to those type with ADBV valve? Otherwise my car engine will be spoiled soon? Very scary huh.

 

I hope anyone with better knowledge should stand out and explain to clear confusion.

I think you got it wrong. Oil enters from all the small holes and exits from the big hole in the centre. this valve is to prevent oil and crud from flowing back out through the small oles. it doesnt stop oil from flowing back down into the sump. Think of it as a one way valve.

 

I second that, the oil flow through the surrounding small hole (6, 8 or 10) and out through the centre big hole thus the ADBV does not stop the oil filter from draining dry. It's the position (180', 90' or 0') of the oil filter that will determine how much oil is drain off after eng shut down.

 

The only way out of this problem is the use of double valve design like this Nippon filter.

That picture is a perfect example of a ADBV that performs one function and not great at the other, The black ring is the ADBV valve.

 

If you know someone who is having a dry start it is most likely coming from an oil filter with a poor quality ADBV. The only reason I bothered with this information is because on of you bro's was curious about what causes a dry start. I take it you bro's are not appoligizing, so let me appoligize first. I'm sorry for my helpful nature.

In what way is Trex's picture a perfect example of an ADBV that performs one function and not great at the other? And, we do know what the ADBV looks like.

 

Trex is trying to point out the sping loaded valve thats in the middle of the filter.

The ADBV is near the opening where the oil comes in. The ADBV's that typically perform better are the silicone ones that have a better structure to them. Is it possible that his ADBV valve works perfect, yes. But it also looks like a host of brands that ADBV's fail or don't work too. I'm asking someone from your forum who knows about oil filters to take over this conversation as I have ran it into the ground. Many of you clearly don't know what your talking about, an good ADBV valve prevents the oil in the filter from seeping out when there's no oil pressure IE when the engine is shut off. Clearly I'm the wrong person to explain it to you as I cannot be any clearer than that, and it seams most of you are resistant to learning this. I'll spend more time reading and learning about this cool forum as opposed to offering information. I wont be back to this post so it's up to you guys to educate yourselves and post what you learn on your own. Peace, Sammy

The problem is that most of the OE stuff we have don't have the ADBV.

 

It is hard to get the aftermarket oil filters with ADBVs here. I know they are common in the USA.

Yes, these are hard to come by here. Trex101 has been looking to import some with ADBV.

Attach is a picture of what a spin on full flow oil filter works. Even if the ADBV can stop the backflow of fluid at the inlet(small hole), it can't stop the draining from the centre outlet(single big hole).

 

It's more or less the position of the oil filter that makes the difference of how much oil is drain off after engine shutdown.

Hmmm.... thanks for the pics. But I cannot understand how the spring at the top works leh???

 

Anyway, for any vessel that has only an inlet and outlet.... isn't it sufficient to close off either to prevent displacement? As long as one of them is blocked off, the flowed is stopped and whatever medium inside will remain inside.... it will not drain out or flow as there is no displacement since either of the ports are closed. [sweatdrop]

 

Unless the displacement is forced, i.e. through positive/negative pressure (vacuum)???? [:/]

 

Or is the spring there to maintain some form of back pressure? [:|]

The spring at the Top are the bypass valve, it purpose is to bypass filtration (dirty oil is better than no oil) in case the filter element is clog up with contaminant.

Somebody in BITOG doesn't believe in oil filters at all. So he screw in bypass plate and just go w/o filteration. hur.gif Like what Trex101 has said, go oil or dirty oil is better than no oil.

 

That guy very hardcore.

so whether ADBV works or don't works, doesn't matter ya? oil still goes in and out of the filter.

w/o the ADBV, your oil will stop flowing the moment you accelerate very hard all of a sudden. Of course we will not experience the starved of oil due to plugged oil filter here because everyone so diligent in changing them.

 

Oil does not just simply go into the filter and come out all the time.

ok.. so does it work as sammy suggested by keeping oil in the engine?

 

u mention tt most oem filters dun have. any that do? i'd like to try one next servicing.

 

if it really can keep the oil in the engine, then it wun matter how zhai an oil is at preventing startup wear right? cos it is already sitting in the engine waiting for u to start.

It doesn't as Trex101 has explained. Once the lube pump stops, everything will go back to the sump.

 

I'm now exploring the possibility of replacing my oil filter with a bypass plate. Don't use oil filter anymore. sweatdrop.gif Hey! Like that have no problems with oil starvation. thumbsup.gif

just out of curiousity.... if i were to use a Denso oil filter for my Toyota, then whether or not it has the ADBV, it should not matter rite? since the engine designer would have taken oil filter specs into consideration when building the engine or specifying requirements to the OEM filter manufacturer...

 

another thing is... i remember reading a long time ago about Porsche's boxer engine design incorporating details like not having a dry engine on startup... which was an inherent advantage for boxer engines... anyone know about this?
