  1. TECH STARTUP DEVELOPS APP THAT CAN TRANSLATE WINE LABELS https://www.thedrinksbusiness.com/2019/07/tech-startup-develops-app-that-can-translate-wine-labels/ Australian startup Third Aurora is developing an app that uses AI-powered technology to enable users to translate wine labels written in different languages. The app will form part of the company’s larger web-based wine platform called Winetales, which is currently being trialled by 80 wineries around the world. Co-founder of Third Aurora, Dave Chaffey, said that the text on wine labels can be translated into the desired language, and when viewed using the app, appears on the label in the same font. The app is capable of translating over one hundred different languages using both artificial intelligence and augmented reality to achieve the finished result. Chaffey added: “Artificial intelligence reads and interprets the content and augmented reality projects the new text back onto the label, right in front of you. “Self-translating is a bit of a misnomer. The labels aren’t actually changing, the translation is projected using augmented reality, which is powered by your smartphone. “If you’re a wine lover it’s a handy addition to have in your front pocket. This sort of technology will reach a tipping point very quickly – we think it will be towards the end of 2020.” Trials began on the Winetales platform on 2 July 2019, with an early release expected from 23 September. The aim is to roll out the platform in 2020. The platform uses AI-powered label recognition technology and allows wineries to add and edit content attached to each wine. The data can also be shared via social media. Third Aurora was established in January this year by three entrepreneurs – Matt Hallber, Luke Chaffey and Dave Chaffey – who specialise in augmented reality, code and digital strategy. The startup is not the only company using AI and AR in drinks. In May, Swedish distillery Mackmyra teamed up with Finnish technology consultancy Fourkind and US electronics giant Microsoft to create what it claims is the first whisky “developed with artificial intelligence”. Last year, creative design agency Freytag Anderson partnered with 3D visualisation specialist Render Studio to develop technology that will enable users to view animated can designs in real-time using a mobile application. In 2017, online wine retailer Sipp launched an app which uses augmented reality to pair wine with food while chef Jason Atherton’s City Social in London developed a cocktail menu called Mirage which involved the creation of 12 different cocktails, which ‘come to life’ when viewed through a specially designed app.
  2. Anyone tried this? In terms of emergency can help to charge up battery and go to workshop and replace your battery. Will never know when our car battery will suddenly fail us without warning. Came across this in e bay. Any comments? Emergency Car Battery Start Up Kit

  4. Link Two weeks ago we reported that Facebook was interested in purchasing Israeli mapping startup Waze for up to $1 billion. Today, it appears that Google is also now in the bidding, and that could up the buying price. Waze specializes in satellite navigation for mobile devices, and uses members' smartphones to generate maps and traffic data. More importantly, Waze collects user's traveling speed and direction, which is extremely valuable data if monetized correctly. Google Maps and other popular mapping apps do not include such data. It had been reported that due diligence between Waze and Facebook had been going on for six months and a term sheet had already been signed. The talks seems to have stalled due to Facebook's demand that the whole team relocate to Palo Alto from Israel. The company currently has 47 million users, with 12 percent coming from the U.S. It also has particularly strong penetration in Brazil and its home country.
  5. Just did my shock and engine mounts (all OEM) change 2 days back... Noticed that when I start my engine, there will be a shudder in the cabin for about 2 seconds and after that it's gone... This happened regardless when the engine is warm or cold... Don't have this before I did the change... Did some read up and it might by my spark plugs but I did my change about 9 months ago so doubt it's that... Also I guess they took my battery out when they did the mounting change because my clock and my radio settings went away when I collected my car... Read that the ECU "re-learns" itself after the reset so it'll take some time for it to get back to normal... Is this part of it? Any experts out there also came across this problem?
  6. My ride is the Elantra 2011 and I have encountered an issue when starting the engine. When I tried to start the engine, the interior meter lights and the Car Entertainment system turned on for a split second before going off again and the engine failed to start. The engine will not start when I tried to start it, throughout this time the Car Entertainment system and meter lights did not turn on. All of this is resolved when I open the car door and closed it, and everything works fine. So far I encountered this issue 3 times in the past 2 weeks. And each time it happens, I have to reprogram my settings again. Any Elantra owners out there encountered this issue?
  7. Hi to all, I would liked to find out does conventional 4 speed auto have startup clutch like the ones found in CVT?
  8. Hi all I just did my servicing last week, an Aveo, these few days during morning startup, while still in 'Park' gear, I realized that the engine will drop to low rev of about 500rpm and about to die off before picking up to 1000rpm(normal idling rev). Can any of you diagnose this? Is it battery weak? Thanks.
  9. Hi Bro, Recently encountered weak cranking during cold startup. Initially thought weak battery but workshop tested that it has 100% charge. However, during the cranking, they tested that voltage changed from 12V to 6V. They serviced the starter motor but still the problem persist. Any bro here can advise what could be the real cause and appropriate measures to diagnose? Warm startup is okay only cold startup.
  10. usually during starting of engine, my car's idling rpm is about 700. but recently, i found out that it is 1000 rpm. any reason for that?
  11. Guys/gals, I had encounter this perculiar problem over 4 instances. Its only during startup, can be 1st start in the morning or after driving & park for a while & engine still warm. When I crank the engine, all I hear is only the crank sound. Either engine doesn't fire up or it will come up half-dead, sputters & die. All over in less than 2 seconds. The last time I encountered this when I crank the engine, it started half dead, sputter, I step on the gas pedal immediately to rev the engine a bit before it had a chance to die off, & it was ok. Idling was ok after that, not really smooth but doesn't sputter. Any idea or suggestion what could be the problem ? As I said, it doesn't always happens & couldn't really be repeated. It comes once in a blue moon. So far, in almost one year, I encountered 4 times already.
  12. Noticed that when i start my car, there's this noise which sounds like screeching. Even worse when i turn on my air conditioner. The noise is like those you always hear in buses and lorries when they start to move off in stationary position. Maybe due to the timing belt? Anyone hear can shed some light? FYI my car close to 100k mileage already. Going to do servicing next week.
  13. Keep engine smooth and rattle free at startup. If your engine rattles at startup it can be because your oil filter doesn't have an AntiDrainBackValve (ADBV). If you buy a cheap Fram oil filter you are doing more harm than good, even if you change your oil often. Check with your brands over there I know that PureOne or Wix/NAPA Gold have an ADBV valve. If your car rattle only at start up chances are if you use a filter with a ADBV it will be a memory! Hope that is helpful, peace Sammy
  14. Detected this recently. When I first got my Optra (A), first 3 tanks are Esso Synergy 2000 (Ron 92). Didn't notice anything strange when starting up. After 1K servicing, started to use Synergy 5000. Felt pick up was a little better, and engine rev quieter. I thought could be the servicing... After 3 Tanks of Ron 95, 4 days ago, I switch back to Synergy 2000. These few days, noticed that during started, the engine revs to 2k+ rpm and stays there longer than usual.. like about 20 seconds. Sometimes, from 2k drop to 1.5k then drop back to 900rpm. Last time with Ron 95, within 3 seconds, it drops from 2k+ to 1k rpm in the morning, if afternoon, idling at less than 900. I always look at the tachometer when I crank the engine, to detect problems... Could it be petrol grade ? Or something else ? This weekend, change back to Synergy 5000 and see...
  15. hi I have this start up problem. Even after changing a starter , when I crank the key sometime there is only a spinning sound. one mech said due to wire aged , low electric power to starter cause this. another said due to some part in gear box? need to open up gear box????? What is that? I was thinking of adding a relay or grounding to improve electric power. Any advice? Thanks
