All your interested rides are excellent buys one way or another ... you just go to drive them yourself and take it from there. I dun agree that becos Merc is also seen in taxi-guise means it is less appealing ... on the other hand, when they introduce Premium taxi limo service, why was Audi/BMW or Volvo not selected ? Think can get it a shade below $190k. engine is a in-line 6, 2953 cc, single twin scroll turbo. rated at 285BHP, 400NM. Top speed at 250kmh. Does not seem to be... well, I am still considering... but currently in order of what i may choose 1. 523 2. E200 3. Volvo 2.5T I may even choose the GS300... I went to test drive the GS300 and the 523 today... both are awesome.... still thinking... the 525 is out of my league for now.... Please keep those suggestions coming... Also, if someone feel that I SHOULD NOT get the 523, please explain why. I know from a technical perspective, the 523 is not the best choice, but hey it's beemer... Frankly, all the cars, Mercedes E200, BMW 523, Volvo S80, Lexus GS300, all are very good cars.....provided you get a decent, well looked after unit. I for one would think that to be able to have the budget to choose to buy any one of them will be great.....Thus dun really bother abt other people comments abt Branding/ Anti-4 cylinder/Premium Badge wanabe/Glorified Toyota/Expensive Servicing/Resale value etc........ You are at exactly the same decision point I was back in Oct last year. I ended up with the S80 2.5T. Made much more sense than buying the BMW or Merz. Choose the car that you like best and then decide whether you can live the pros and the cons such as high price, no servicing package etc.. rather than compare so many cars cos it's there is always reasons for certain brands to offer special packages... well, my heart still with 523... will make a decision soon.. just afraid that if i buy a volvo or GS300, then i will be wondering how a 523 will drive like.. But your last sentence in this thread, makes really good sense.. 'buy what you like'. I agree on the fact of reliability, maintenance costs etc. But one thing that prob may skew me towards the BMW more than the GS is that I just want to be able to own a Beemer once in my life. SInce I am driving the IS now, I know the GS is a great car. Without doubt... but the BMW branding.... is something that is hard to beat for now... well, who knows, I may end up with a E200 or GS... let's see how it goes Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ncss Clutched March 23, 2008 Share March 23, 2008 E200 is good in many aspect overall... nice driving machine especially cruising but no punchy feeling, pickup is smooth but don't expect it can cheong fast. 2.5T may lack some aspect but it is more powerful. Also can expect a smooth cruiser like E200 but the wide turning radius is its disadvantage for parking and U-turn. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Highoak Neutral Newbie March 23, 2008 Share March 23, 2008 Hi ! If you are coming from an IS, then I dun think the E200 will suit you. Dun get me wrong, it is a good car with all the qualities of a luxury saloon. Only that the engine is a bit rough and the cabin noise is on the high side, at least thats how I felt. Reliability wise, I am not sure about the latest facelifted Merc but I think most if not all the known problems should have been ironed out by now. Coming from an IS with a V6 engine, I think you should consider only the BMW 523 or the GS with their smooth In-Line 6 or V6 respectively. Both are great cars which I dun think you will regret. The 523 will be more of a driver's car in my opinion. The feel of a Conti is very different from a Jap. If you are going for the 523, then I strongly suggest you opt for the option of Comfort Seats (a $3k + option, I think). Otherwise, the GS is good enough as it is, with most if not all the features that you desire coming in as standard against a Conti which would have charged you dearly for. It is very much a value for money car. To quote someone from the Lexus Forum, the GS does 90% of what a 530 can at 90% of its price (or something like that...forgotten his actual statement).
