macrosszero Turbocharged December 3, 2006 Author Share December 3, 2006 Honda insurance was between $200-400 more expensive than the rest (same age group and criteria).
Wrc206 Neutral Newbie December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 Not sure about that one thou. I'm considering getting Jazz/Rush/SwiftSport/ColtVR. Jazz is leading cos of FC and its really cheap now at just over 50k.
Vit4wd 1st Gear December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 Didn't miss, it was left out, along with the Micra, because I wanted a manual gearbox. The looks of the Mazda 2 does appeal to me though. Found out the 1.5 Mivec Colt manual sprints to 100kph in 9.7 secs on paper. I'm surprised it feels so much more peppy than the rest. Go for the Colt. The Jazz is an overrated car with too high a price tag, and it is an aging model too.
Bentwy Neutral Newbie December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 (edited) I am 27 with 0% NCD. unlike people who don't check their facts - here is the insurance of the various cars I was considering 4 months back. Colt - $1900 Swift - $2200 Jazz - $2000 and i'm talking about equivalent plans here please. all comprehensive packages and not from auntie lucy. Bentwy Neutral Newbie December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 i would say go with your heart. i considered the colt but i wasn't really attracted. actually when i was purchasing I realise the price was about the same. the non bodykitted colt was going just below $50K. The non bodykitted 05 model of jazz was going for $51K. The bodykitted version of the colt that was on display (of course) needed some topping up. the jazz listed on the pricelist (then 56K) is the bodykitted 06 one. please get your facts right about pricing... Bentwy Neutral Newbie December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 bro. since I was in your boat just a few months back.. I would say screw the advice of what people say here. most of them don't even drive the car(s) they are advicing you to buy. I didn't ask for opinions because I liked my current car at first sight. I'm still very happy with it. That's what counts issn't it? You just have to know what you like about a mode of transport. or better still what you don't like. Vit4wd 1st Gear December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 (edited) Apologise about the pricing part. Good that you came on board to clarify. Did you not consider regsitering your new car under either of your parent's name? You save at least 40% in premiums. The insurance is cheaper. You are categorised under the "High Risk" group due to your age. When you hit your 30s and purchase your next car, you can always regsiter it under your name and enjoy lower insurance premiums. Elfenstar 3rd Gear December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 Daihatsu will be selling the Coo (aka Toyota bB, 2nd gen) next month. I don't mind getting one if looking for a small car since STS will be the distributor. Parts and service will be convenient. Nice!!! Look a lil better than the toyota version with its grill stretched across the entire face! I'm keeping an eye on this thread as my mom wants to change cars and she like the small compact hatch segment.
Bentwy Neutral Newbie December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 (edited) actually I just 'pass' that group. young and inexperienced would mean 26 and below and/or with only 2 years experience. which i'm neither. no I will not put my car under a parent's name. not everything is about money. money cannot buy some things. if i'm at a point whereby I need to find ways to get cheaper insurance of 1K a year, then I shouldn't be even thinking of buying a car. no offense. Redboy 1st Gear December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 Actually, I think it's no point paying so much for insurance. It's only when we kena accidents then we realize value of insurance. Of course, touch wood, who want to get into accidents & claim insurance juz to get their money's worth? Thus we prevent accident, but hard-earned money goes into other ppl's pockets. If kena accident, troublesome but get some rewards for paying insurance. So it's not abt 'if I have to find cheaper insurance, then dun buy car'. Nothing wrong with putting parent's name, it won't hurt or affect anything, rite? Might as well save that money for petrol, servicing, parking. At least joy is derived from driving around & maintaining car , so money is more worth spending on them.
Bentwy Neutral Newbie December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 some of us have no parents to live under, permanantly 'borrow' car from etc. I know of 40 year olds who still live off their parents. sorry i don't have that luxury. hope you understand where i'm coming from. Spade Neutral Newbie December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 Mitsu Colt R will definitely kick both Mazda2SP & Swift Sports' arses. There's no replacement for forced induction. if you talking about B20 Civics again I'll kick your arse (they're old and unavailable and not Hatchbacks, plus if you TC them, even better). Redboy 1st Gear December 3, 2006 Share December 3, 2006 My sincere apologies if my statement offended! No offense meant! Anyway, my point is not abt asking parents to pay for car & its ownership costs. It's only using parent's name to buy insurance. Everything else is still borne by owner. ↡ Advertisement
