Which compact hatchback?

Shopping for a compact hatchback, hence this poll to see what people think.

 

I've listed a quick breakdown of each car here:

 

Honda Jazz - Pros: Fuel economy, many boot configuration options give space, lower road tax from smaller engine. Cons: Small engine down on power, higher insurance. Been in the market fairly long (possibly due to be replaced soon).

 

Mitsubishi Colt - Pros: Price and rebates package, eager MIVEC engine. Cons: Light steering with little feel. Mitsubishi quality (or lack thereof). Just a little younger than Jazz.

 

Suzuki Swift - Pros: Price, and its low and ground hugging stance compared to the rest suggests it might resist body roll better with spirited driving (which I do often). Cons: Resale value, the brand is traditionally viewed as a cheap brand "Soo soo ki" (lose lose go). The previous Suzuki Swift GL was quite thin and rattly, even though this current one is a quantum leap forward, I am unsure of durability.

 

Toyota Yaris - Pros: Most powerful engine of the four, and quoted as quickest to 100kph. Fresh styling and fairly new model, not very common on the roads yet. Cons: Thai-made. Toyota's traditional strength resale value might take a hit due to the car's origin. The Soluna is still a bad memory to some. Similarly to build quality. Centre-mounted dash console not to my taste. Thin profile tires suggest not much grip in corners, and copious amounts of body roll.

Drove the yaris before, you wouldn't believe the amounft of bodyroll on that car.

You may want to test out the Fiat Grande Punto & the price is good for a conti car.

 

Been searching for a hatchback till I found a conti hatchback....

i find the interior of the grande punto pretty disappointing when i saw it at the motor show...in fact i was shocked by its trims and cuts and the quality of the plastics used...it was hard and "plasticky"...reminds me of lada samara!

How about Sirion? I can outrun my fren's Swift anytime despite it's 1.3 engine.

what's your requirements for a car? what would you be happy with?

 

some people can live with body roll, thai made etc. what makes you tick?

 

for me it was FC and build quality. I got a jazz over the colt and swift cos it was love at first sight. every car has it's cons but i must say i am so far very happy with the jazz for various reasons for the last 3-4 months.

 

best thing is go test drive. have a good feel for the car. buy what you rationally or irrationally prefer.

Yeah. Too plasticky.

 

It's not competitively priced among small hatchbacks.

 

FC not impressive as compared to Jazz. Nothing outstanding abt the performance.

 

But has nice exterior styling. That's the only thing attractive.

 

A bit overrated IMO.

Requirements for a car is to get me around. One might say, even a Chery QQ will suffice. But my other requirements are decent power output, handling, and reliability.

 

Sorry, the PI and continental cars are out. As I need the car for work (not just getting to and from workplace) I can ill-afford downtime waiting for body panels or spare parts to be shipped in. As I could possibly cover 30,000km in a year, I need a car with good FC.

 

Each car offers me something different, hence I'm looking at how others view these four cars. From there I might be able to make my own decision. I deliberately left out most of my needs, so that you can vote which car best suits your needs.

 

I've test driven all four of the cars already.
