Hi bro

but there are actually quite a lot of reviews that there will be power lost during slope climbing, etc. Kind of sceptical now

So after reading so much, does it really weakens the batt charging and is there a power lost when climbing slope? any specified brands that I should look out for which comes with gd dampener?

There are pros and cons to this.

Pros

1)Yes ur RPM climbs faster

2)FC might improve

Cons

1)Ur speed drops faster

2)Since the thing is lightweight, there might be harmonic unbalance

Hi all

I am about to book and change the crank pulley to a lighten aluminium 7075 one now. Many ppl say that a ride will feel more responsive. Jus wan to confirm this before I place my order.

Thanks

i had read about how some aftermarket crank pulley could damage your engine internals.

one of the most reputable brand is Unorthordox which is tested and proven to have no side effect on the engine.

because of the side effect to the engine,AEM does not make light weight pulley instead they replace with those light weight underpulley(one pulley drives the alternator and the other drives aircon or power steering,i forgot).

I'm using this underdrive stuff. Not that bad.

1. There are hardly any challenging slopes that we can try in SG. The real test is still up north.

2. I don't feel any significant weakenss in battery or power loss. My family watch video on the move to North and it is not difficult to climb to 180Km/h with an underdrive pulley.

Modern Jap or Korean Cars rarely need harmonic balancing as they are mostly internally balanced. However, European cars such as BMW still rely on such technique. Though underdrive pulley are mostly found in race cars but better don't try on domestic Conti cars.

Hi all,

I am using a summit lightweight crank pulley.

Anyone out there who knows if this brand comes with the harmonic dampers?

Any negative effects on a mazda 3 sedan?

thanks,

The same question I am going to ask, when it comes to 'aftermarket' products.

If its benefitial to have such pulleys, How come car manufacturer do not implement it?

Surely its not a cost matter since, such lighter pulley will mean lesser material=less raw maetrial cost?

I am not disputing the benefits of such pulleys.

I am just wondering Why don't the manufacturer implement such things in their car? It may not make a cheap Geely to become a Farrari, but by using such benefitial components, surely the finished car will be a much better handling car?

1.Lighter material is more expensive. This is a common knowledge.

2.Lighten Crank Pulley has nothing to do with the handling department of the car.

3.Like all other aftermarket products, there would be some believers or non believers. In my case, I believe in it. There is a long list of aftermarket products, but due to budget constraint, I choose based on my needs and belief.I did not regret as the throttle response has indeed improved. Sometimes, have to read up abit to discern what is "snake oil" and what is not.

hi bro, thanks for your insights! [:)]

not sure y car co choose not to do this... mabbe they wanted a more neutral car for everybody... whereas some like it to be more performance based, others may prefer more comfort? [confused]

Lighten Crank Pulley definatly improve the responsive and the pick up of the car. The only set back is probably long distant travelling ...

Things to note, when getting Crank pulley, its better not to get an under-size one, heard it might affect battery charging? .. [sweatdrop]

So far I haven't been affected so much by long distant travelling. Can you kindly share with us why?

As for battery, one of our bros, Thug, has done the measurement of the voltage and it is still ok.

Hi all,

Sorry to hijack this thread. I had just installed in my ride with a newly purchased summit lighten crank pulley with harmonic damper. Has anyone used aftermarket lighten crank pulley in their ride for 1to 2 years or more without any side effects? Please enlighten.

Cheers,

Tommy
