Driving up north

Hi ppl,

 

Thinking of driving up Cameron highlands in Jan 07. Can I get your views on the safety of bringing your own car there, as opposed to renting one?

depends on what car are you driving?

IMHO, driving your own car is better lah, because a lot of up/down hill and sharp bend, you are more comfortable for your own car

always try to park car in places u can see. Before driving off check ard to see got nails or not. cant list down all but the rest shld be common sense.

I drove my C-class there last year...perfectly alright. Check into Equatorial hotel apartment if you want 2 bedrooms and a living room. You get a parking lot right at the ground level of your unit.

Own car is preferable, rental car might dead on you half way to the top, and during weekend, good luck, so service your own car properly before go up, battery check(weather cold, weak battery may dead, if you stay overnight at equtorial or strawberry), coolant top up, you might have to drag your auto transmission if you hit a car in front of you farting slow , mostly lorry or bus, it not their fault anyway...

 

careful if you want to overtake, but damn thrill especially down hill, ahem...no drifting please, if not you end up down the hill faster

if renting, go for manual since u want to go cameron. u'll appreciate manual gear control in such terrain ...

driving up/down hill, normally Malaysia vehicles will tailgate you, bully Singapore registered vehicles, don't panic, let them overtakeing

actually you should use ur own car unless urs confirm cannot go up cameron because no one knows your own car better than yourself.

 

If rental, you don't know the history. you don't know the brakes condition, engine condition, coolant condition etc.

 

The last thing you want while on holiday is to see smoke coming out of your bonnet or brakes problems while coming down cameron.

 

In short, use your own car. In S'pore, rent all you want but not for trips like these .....

Driving own car is safer. Use the new route up, its much smoother and relaxing.

do look out for SG car for road hogging..yes.. they think they have the right of way travelling right side of the xpress way at 110km/h on the NSH...

I am going to Cameron Highlands as well at the end of this month. Besides driving, are there any ways to go uphill? I am not too comfortable about driving up there.

 

My car was scratched the last time I park in a shopping mall in KL. :(
