Watwheels Supersonic January 14, 2007 Share January 14, 2007 Any modification to your exhaust, be it cat, muffler or extractor, it's illegal. Unless u got the certs LTA wanna see dan can approve.(Check LTA website) For that little bit of increase in performance, I dun think it's value for $$$ furthermore u have to sacrifice something to gain something else. ↡ Advertisement
Pdesign1 Neutral Newbie January 18, 2007 Share January 18, 2007 Pardon my ignorance, actually this high flow cat thing, does it do the job of stock cat and have high flow or not as good in removal of toxic gases? My ride is auto, thinking of increasing diameter of flex joint (stock got small ID) in downpipe and getting a high flow cat but retain muffler unmodded. Then go for custom tune. Cos ride is not lowered, if Kuitoh quite easy to see weld mark if bend down and shine torchlite. I heard some say stock muffler flow is already quite efficient flow, except some owners want nicer sound..Opinions?
Dwoon 1st Gear January 18, 2007 Share January 18, 2007 Errr... is it the muffler you wanna mod or is it the cat you wanna kill? Killing the cat does not necessarily make the exhaust sound louder. The muffler thinggy does that. However, killing the cat will make the exhaust note louder if your muffler is already "opened". Compared to just having the cat done away with, but muffler is stock. Pdesign1 Neutral Newbie January 18, 2007 Share January 18, 2007 Thinking to retain muffler stock but change to high flow cat. Any good towards performance? Or die die must do the muffler cos bottle neck? Or is this bottle neck at the muffler a negligible one? I prefer to look n sound as stock as possible. Thug Clutched January 18, 2007 Share January 18, 2007 Hmmm...why not try it urself. Its better to feel it urself than to hear from so many others.
Dwoon 1st Gear January 18, 2007 Share January 18, 2007 Well, I guess that'll depend very much on your car. I have 3 cats in my ride..... killed 2 and left one. That already gives an improvement. My muffler is still stock. Sound of exhaust is also very stock. Have some khakis killed all cats but retain stock muffler.... slightly louder only. Dfx16 6th Gear January 18, 2007 Share January 18, 2007 Its not as effective in removal of toxic gases But if u do a search around some local forums you will be surprise that there are many still pass during the inspection They failed only when the the inspector discover its an aftermarket cat, weld marks etc (IMO)I would still consider its more enviroment friendly as compared to maybe lorries, buses or even bikes exhaust gases? Sparcoray Clutched March 9, 2007 Share March 9, 2007 does changing extractor - high flow cat - legal aftermart mufflers helps in performance? extractor changed to 4-2-1 but cat is stock with stock piping. any recommendations of exos workshop?
Clazio71 Neutral Newbie March 9, 2007 Share March 9, 2007 Just for a brief description, a 4-2-1 extractor helps to enhance the pickup of your vehicle and for auto car, a high flow cat to replace your existing cat also improves the air flow of your exhaust system. These will boost the horsepower of your vehicle by around 5% but such modifications are not LTA-compliant. At present, only the rear muffler has models that are approved by LTA and depending on your ride, there are many famous brands in the market like Remus, HKS, Sebring & Fujisubo etc. Another 5-7% improvement in bhp is expected and you will enjoy a better sound level when you rev your car. Sparcoray Clutched March 9, 2007 Share March 9, 2007 Hi,tks for ur explanations on exos. I know tat 4-2-1 extractor & high-flow cat are not LTA_compliant but this improve the exos flow. Can u pm me on the high-flow cat for lancer? Thanks!
Thug Clutched March 9, 2007 Share March 9, 2007 Changing aftermarket extractor will smoothen the flow of ur exhuast. But of coz there is no LTA compliance extractor in the market now. Well...at least for my car. However also just by changing doesn't mean there will be full effect. To bring out the full potential its advisable to bore the exhuast outlet of the engine itself to the size of the aftermarket extractor u installing. I dun know about high flow cat. My car never had 1 b4. Mufflers does help as well. The 2 popular exhuast would be remus and supersprint. Mcwell is carrying remus. And for ss I forgot the name of the shop. Will get back to u. Thug Clutched March 9, 2007 Share March 9, 2007 Oh ya correct..Jeep chee....called them once infact.... So doing ur exhuast? Let me know if u doing and hows the performance after that.... Got 3 friends just got their lancer as well...all discussing to do their exhuast together. They just can't make up their mind...
Clazio71 Neutral Newbie March 9, 2007 Share March 9, 2007 High flow cat helps your vehicle to experience a smooth transition in speed and horsepower without experiencing a "drawback" effect especially when your vehicle is picking up from 2000rpm onwards. You seem to know a lot about cars and I hope that we can share our knowledge and interests through this forum because we are always learning something new all the time. For your information, there are many other popular exhaust systems in the market at present but Remus has been the world's No. 1 exhaust system for the past 2 decades and FK has always been the major distributor for Remus. ↡ Advertisement
