Hope it is the levy used to pay for the final payment of the new expressway. Basically, in my view is their failure to develop the roads for the north-east people livng there. The alternative expressway was supposed to be up some 20 years ago.

haiz the gahmen cant pls everybody lah.

gahmen wanna fulfill and realize the dream of car ownership for young aspiring sporeans. So gahmen lower COE . Then after tat downpayment rules were more lax so this group happy. Guess wat, end of day, all the jams happen. They increase cost of usage to control the mkt, all kbkb again cos gahmen missed out that ppl find it hard to resist the urge to get a new ride with SE whispering 0 downpayment, cash back.

Gahmen in a bid to manage this situation places effort to improve public transport system to hopefully balance our dreams and the realistic limitations of building more roads where it's needed.

Gahmen try "Eye in the sky" system to allow all cars to be OPC based with a GPS tracker to track and charge our usage to allow ppl to do their own sums prior to using their car. Sadly technologically still not possible due to the lack of accuracy of GPS tracking in urban canyons.

At the end of the day all the theories are wonderful to begin with. But Singaporeans always have funny way to react. Even buying condo become like buying hello kitty.

So gahmen fault for having good vision but not so good implementation? or ppl fault for buying cars and joining the jams? Reminds of an advert for drugs

" How much does this car cost?"

" 1.2K a mth, ERP charges, frustration from jams, a 7 yr loan timebomb, a liability"

Jus a change from squeezing on a train to squeezing on a road.

Jus my 2 cents. Still riding a bike and dreams of a car.

COE balances the number of cars on the road by matching car dereg to new cars on the road or rather how LTA sees how much cars our roads can support vs rate of growth of roads. Tat is good planning. But sadly number of COE isnt the first thing on our mind when we consider buying the car. Cost is. Installment is. Coming from supply and demand angle if overall cost of car increases due to COE, will demand dip? May or may not cos banks or agents will come up with carrots to re market. If anything how car owners perceive COE is its effect on the overall cost of car and depreciation. But end of they day, will u buy a car with 20K COE or a car with 10K COE?

Anyway not trying to start a flame war. Been riding a bike for 3 yrs. Dreaming of day when I need not worry bout the weather or some reckless drivers when I am on the road.

You are right bro, but there are other factors involved too. Inconsiderate drivers who road hogs, fearful drivers who fears everything, blah blah blah... plus all these together and you get rushhour at the CTE. Then again, everything goes up in Singapore except our salary! [laugh]

Its simple logic, if lower COE means lower cost to buy cars. Means more ppl can afford to buy cars, which means more cars on the road.

Obviously it causes jam when there are more cars on the road. If you compare now and 7-10 years ago when the COE was sky rocketed high. Jams were not so common
