Kklee 6th Gear November 24, 2007 Share November 24, 2007 (edited) IIRC, GPS has data for altitude. Perhaps it is the limitation of the map software. Edited November 24, 2007 by Kklee

macrosszero Turbocharged November 25, 2007 Share November 25, 2007 Difference between local Garmin models are simply: Basic routing model vs. Models with more functions = MP3 player/picture viewer Generic turn instructions (eg "turn left in 200m") vs. Text To Speech (which reads out road names) Small screen size vs. Big screen size Bluetooth vs. Non-Bluetooth (useful for handsfree for mobile phones - my favourite feature) Built-in maps vs. no built-in maps (ie, Malsingmaps) Grey vs. Warranteed models
Redstorm 1st Gear November 25, 2007 Share November 25, 2007 anyone has any idea why does my nuvi 310 takes super long to log on. i can start the thing and after awhile it will ask today's date, have u travelled hundreds or miles/km, are u indoors?.... and 5mins later den it logs on. but if within an hr i switch on again no prob leh. it usually happenes after over night parking. hmm maybe. but i start drive off, 5mins den start tracking. damn long i feel. sometime u start alr jus wanna key in the location and drive off den cant. btw i side track abit. the malsingmaps downloads are locked. wat if. WAT IF ppl share login id and password, all can tap upon 1 contributors and start downloading right? my is the latest free version There is this thing called cold start and hot start. Just like your car where it needs to take a while for the engine to warm up before u drive off the first time in the morning, your GPS also takes a longer time to log onto the satellites if u have not been using it for quite some time eg. after a day. This is called cold start. After u have been using it all day long, a hot start is where u drive ur car off without having to wait for the engine to warm up. Likewise, your GPS log onto the satellite faster. Even if u use someone else's login id and password and start downloading the locked map for your Nuvi, it's no use as your set will not be able to unlock the map. You need to have an unlock code. If you have made sufficient contributions, you have to give your GPS set's ID to the mapper when requesting for unlock code for the latest map. This unlock code, which is tied to your GPS set's ID, is able to unlock the map only in your GPS set. If u give the unlock code to someone else, he will not be able to unlock the map in his GSP set as his ID is different from yours.
Mrericlee Neutral Newbie November 25, 2007 Share November 25, 2007 Hi Guys, I am also looking to buy a Garmin with a larger screen. Price I can bargain... But question is should I buy with or without maps? Heard that MalSingMaps no longer free.. Please help. Regards, Eric Lee
Redstorm 1st Gear November 25, 2007 Share November 25, 2007 U can go to Perfect Watch at the ground floor of SLS. They have a range of Garmin GPS for your selection but I doubt u can bargain because it's controlled price. Malsingmap's still have a free map for first timer user of the Garmin GPS. The June 07 version is an open map and can be downloaded FOC by anyone. Afterwhich, if u want subsequent release of map (they release new map every month!!!), you gotta contribute towards error and/or new POIs in order to earn the unlock code for the latest map. ↡ Advertisement
