Dumber, this picture posted by you, do u see the electric tram car cables overhead and the tram car on the right of the picture? I think the tram cars were gone by the early 60s'. I remember riding on one when I was very young. Now, u can guess my age. [laugh]

The biggest fire in Singapore history broke out in the squatter settlement of Bukit Ho Swee on May 25, 1961 devastating an area of 60 acres. Four people died, eighty-five were injured, and 16,000 were made homeless and more than 2,200 attap houses were destroyed.

growing up in Tanjong Rhu,

i had fond memories of the swing and see saw, visible behind the covered hall,

ECP Highway is where the shoreline used to be,

over the horizon, Asia life Assurance was the tallest bldg,

just to the right of the enclose lagoon by the sea.

Thanks for the pic. That was indeed the beach at Katong Park. Used to go there since very young.

 

In the first pic, the bldg at the far end was the toilet.

 

In the second coloured pic, you will notice an enclosure sticking out to sea. I am trying to find a photo I had with my dad in that pool when I was a baby. Then swimming outside the enclosure was dangerous. There were sharks back then.
