Dumb 4th Gear February 21, 2007 Share February 21, 2007 Those single storey terrace houses in your pic were completely gone. Those old HDB double and single storey terrace houses with enclosed gardens and some gardens are large like private houses are not part of Kim Keat Rd. They are more in Jln Bahagia and Jln Mamor and they exist before those single storey houses shown in your pic. They were sold long before Toa Payoh was developed. They were not for re-settlement cases.
Dumb 4th Gear February 21, 2007 Share February 21, 2007 Ok..At least there is a picture of the SJI courtyard... The pic of the courtyard is not part of the 1929 album by the same person. May be the photographer was from SJI. That why he did not take pic of it.

Dumb 4th Gear February 21, 2007 Share February 21, 2007 From St Margaret Sch at Sophia Rd, go further uphill and you will find Mt Emily swimming pool. Was that the first public swimming pool? Willow Sec Sch is or was near Cedar Sch. My friend's family was a jaga in that sch. I envied him for living in the sch quarter with huge huge compound. Dumb 4th Gear February 21, 2007 Share February 21, 2007 I broke my record when I down-ed 8 cans of Tiger Beer at the NCO Club during SISPEC end of course celebrations. I'm not really a drinker, so that was an achievement for me. Ahh... all the memories of the NCO club. SAF NCO club. I enjoyed many a cheap beer there. Pity beer no more. The Fiat 600 was super fast for such a small car. Rear engined 600cc only. I was member of the Club for $2 per annum after completing national service. Can't drink, so made use of the pool and tombola only and bought duty free beer for friends. The bldg has an earlier name when it was under the British. You know the name? Dumb 4th Gear February 21, 2007 Share February 21, 2007 Those were the days. Used to go there for satay when I was a child . After we would run all over the park. Opposite was the padang, a favourite place, including esplanade and compound of St Andrew's Church, in the evening for copulating couples.
