Hi all,

Just sent my car for servicing. 20k already. Only remember this burning question when i was asked again: Do you want wheel rotation?

When asked, i was a bit shy to question the purpose and usefulness of doing it.

Therefore, can anyone help me understand its purpose?

Thanks

I am also curious about it, when I went to 1 shop during my 1st 10k, wanna do a rotation the shop inspect my tyres than say no need to do so yet. So do we still follow the rule of rotating at 10k?

Wheel rotation should be done every 10K. Basically what the shop does is swap the front rim with the rear rim so that the wear will be even.

Wheel balancing should also be done every 10K. What the shop does is take the front rims out and balance it on a machine, then they stick those small weight pieces behind the rims.

Wheel alignment should only be done when you changed shock absorbers or when u feel your car is not going straight (veering left or right) even though the steering wheel is straight.

Yes, wheel rotation is essential to prolong tyre life.

Normally it consist of:

1) Swapping front tyres (2nos) with the rear tyres (2nos).

2) The rear tyres which will be going to the front will need to do balancing.

3) The front tyres which will be going to the rear usually no need to do balancing.

Previously Stamford Tyre charges $10 for below 15" tyre rotation and recently it increased to $15...frown.gif

Depends, whether u want to evenly worn off all the tyres evenly or just let the 2 front tyres almost bald and change only the front 2 with similar brand and model

Since your is 20K rotation with off wheel balancing ,u might feel uneven feel ,despite its balance.

Thats where on wheel balancing is required.

Just to add. The front wheels are exposed to greater amounts of wear, due to all the turning of the front wheels. Thats for front wheel drives (like ur regular sunny, lancer and vios).

As for rear wheel drive, the rear wheels experience a large amount of wear, greater than normal front wheel drives. Mostly applicable to performance rides.
