Octopus 3rd Gear June 8, 2007 Share June 8, 2007 hi, All I did was to inform the guy that my fuel consumption was bad and he replied that he will do some tuning. Upon completion, the job statement indicated a certain "consult tuning". My case was that FC for 1k & 5k servicing was pretty good @ 15km/l. However, after the 10k servicing the FC dropped to around 13, 14km/l. So I just reflect to the service centre about the case during servicing. If there is no such thing as engine tuning, then it must be the oil i used (10W30) at 20k that helped my fc. still in my 1st tank after servicing last week. travelled 500km and indicator at last quarter. so maybe this tank can travel close to 600km. (70% HW) Will continue to monitor. Cheers. Did you managed to see how your mechanic tune your engine? For mine (old engine) I understand that by adjusting (turn) the distributor which is located at one side of the engine near the valves train, it can advanced or retard the timing.....not sure does this works on newer engines.... ↡ Advertisement
Octopus 3rd Gear June 8, 2007 Share June 8, 2007 [reply] Bro, Thanks for the info. Sorry for hijack the thread a bit. I'm so jealous about yout FC, my 1st tank (35.6L ) only give me 311km, FC=8.74km/L, 100% City. My 2nd tank gave me ard 9.0km/L (result of chiong on city road ). Last week, I test FC purposely by visiting East Cost Park once, which gives me the best FC so far, 10.8km/L 53% HW, 47% City (in detail, 60 km HW, 52km City, used 10.3 Liter). Can't believe my right foot is heavy type, as whenever start moving always remain the below 2.5krpm. got countless horn already from behind for slow start up. some more, in order to see a beautiful FC figure, I fix my air-con at 26 degree and fan at 1 bar. Really feel my Latio as thirsty as the old Sunny. . To me my Latio FC is going to be another nightmare case I thought Latio should be getting much better FC than that? Even my G6 corolla can get around 12 km/l with normal driving, meaning just slightly above the speed limit, rpm around 3k....
Tiger21 Clutched June 8, 2007 Share June 8, 2007 Hi, Nope. Customers are not allowed to enter the maintenance area at Tan Chong. Anyway, found this on their website on "Consult Tuning" NISSAN CONSULT Electronic Engine Tuning Consult is the most advance diagnostic computer ever developed by Nissan to accurately diagnose all electronic systems on Nissan Vehicles namely: Engine ECCS, ABS, Auto A/C, Air Bag, Auto Transmission, Multiplexing System, Active Suspension and many more. Anyway, 1st tank after 20k servicing, fc = 608.2km/36.47lt = 16.68km/lt. So far my best ever!!! Today 1/2 tank travelled 300km already. Anyway, read todays paper, Latio got recall notice. Only the CVT version affected due to the forward drive clutch. Call them they say have to wait till their letter inform owner to make arrangements for replacement. supposing 1 day affair. Good Luck. Subarur1 Neutral Newbie June 14, 2007 Share June 14, 2007 hi guys/gals, where can i buy motul 5W30 engine oil?
Tiger21 Clutched June 14, 2007 Share June 14, 2007 There was discount on Mobile 1 Motor oil last week at $12.90 per quart at Giant Supermarket. Now not sure if the discount still available this week, but they should still be selling the oil. I only saw 0W40 and 10W30. Not sure about 5W30 Cheers. Tilapiah Neutral Newbie June 17, 2007 Share June 17, 2007 hi guys just reading up through the thread. wonder if any getz owners here on shell helix / mobile syn engine oil? any recommendations? thanks!
Chucky2007 Turbocharged June 17, 2007 Share June 17, 2007 u should go getz club and ask them.. anyway i have stopped using Shell Helix many years ago. Mobil 1 also not often..using them are a waste of good $$. too much better oil at lower prices. search around engine oil discussion in this forum and u will get what i mean. Boyboy 1st Gear June 21, 2007 Share June 21, 2007 i used it.. ok la. maybe i not sensitive but i didn't find any diff between this n car* oil.. i used it prev servicing cos KMC only give me $30 off if i use my own oil. come to think of it i shd have used my own. if u go KMC, helix is what they will give u. otherwise, dun fuss too much abt getz. it can pretty much take any oil tt meets the viscosity requirement in owners manual. be it mineral or syn
Chucky2007 Turbocharged June 21, 2007 Share June 21, 2007 dun go kmc lor.. if u worry abt warranty, then extend yr servicing time. example: next servicing due: 20000km. At 20000km, if u just change oil and oil filter, go workshop outside. then at 30000km then go back kmc. KMC will not ask u how come u never service at 20000km..they bor chap one.. as long as u got go back service, not much issue.
Boyboy 1st Gear June 21, 2007 Share June 21, 2007 very good advice bro.. in fact i intend to do that.. last svc 18k, next svc 34-36k with in between oil n filter change of course. but next time i gonna bring my own oil to KMC..
Tilapiah Neutral Newbie June 21, 2007 Share June 21, 2007 thanks .. my brother had to go off to the nearest SPC petrol kiosk for emergency fixing then had the guy change the engine oil since already there. the performance of the car especially the mileage got worse after changing from shell helix to the spc brand so i think next servicing must change back or find something else more suitable. Nitekid Neutral Newbie June 21, 2007 Share June 21, 2007 You might like to try OWS racing engine oil, i just change it yesterday and it seems pretty good, car feels lighter and better throttle response. but not very cheap tho..Just gave it a try, so far so good. Pisces69 6th Gear June 22, 2007 Share June 22, 2007 Bro, bro, my Latio 1k service will be few days later. Can share how to ask them to tune my car to less thirsty? ====================== Modern engines u cannot "tune" like older carb cars. Only way is to re-prog the ECU. I don't recommend even trying cos if the mech tries, he wil prob screw up your air/fuel mixture which might cause your valves to burn up. And later u go back, they won't honour any warranty cos they say u asked them to do it. Just drive more gently & u sud get a slightly better FC.
